Yea every time I look at it I can't bring myself to get ride of it, damn things just exudes coolness. It is a lot of fun to ride but runs out of steam around 80-90 mph, of course there is no legit reason to ride that fast anyway so really not an issue. Just wish it had a 6th gear for sustained interstate riding needed to get me to the fun roads. I've done a few basic intake/exhaust and tuning mods and its putting out 88 hp and 75 tq at the rear wheel.

I only wish we had the choices you guys have for insurance.

Here in BC you can only get insurance through the government.
I am 42 yrs old and have had my motorcycle license for 10 yrs. I have not had a ticket (of any kind) or an accident in 25 years .

I pay $1250/year for my 2011 R1200R and that is only riding it 8 mnths of the year. Would be closer to $1600 if I insured all year.

Needless to say I get sick to my stomach when I hear how much you guys pay for insurance.

I do get free healthcare so I guess its not all bad...

I have had my motorcycle insurance through them for the last 6 years.

He could not give specifics on why the rate was what it was, but he did mention it being a brand new model, "high" horsepower, and not having traction control or ABS. Nearly $1200 for a year's insurance for one bike seems crazy to me.

If the government controls it, it's not insurance, it's extortion. Single payer eliminates competition and a guarantee that claims are/will actually be paid. How can one be "In Good Hands", when those hands don't have to worry about someone else willing to work at a lower profit margin. Our new healthcare will end up like your vehicle insurance, but probably much worse.

Out of control, and "Oh, by the way...you bought the NO PAY policy." Ala Monty Python....

Hoop71 was discussing the problems he has with government run insurance in his country. Are you suggesting he and/or I were lying about the facts? Yes this is an FZ-09 thread and hopefully folks will be able to purchase them soon, so we can discuss them and let our elected officials get back to running our countries... None of our concern what they do, I guess...

I have a pretty good idea; let's keep politics out of this thread.

Someone is tricking you. We have had choices here in BC with motorcycle insurance for the last 3 or 4 years. The private co. comprehensive insurance is less than 50% of the cost of ICBC comprehensive, and you get a deal on the price when you insure more than one bike.

Yeah I know no politics & all that, BUT... all states in my part of the world require compulsory third party personal insurance as a pre-requisite for registration. This was traditionally run through government insurance agencies, but a decade or so ago some states abandoned this activity to the private sector. In those states not only has the premium risen to over double the cost of the state run analogues but the insurance companies are abandoning the market for motorcycles as too hard so arranging coverage becomes time consuming (& time is money!)

As for privatized health care? The USA has a cost per capita for healthcare that is twice what it is in my first world western homeland with a hybrid of universal & private health care.

back to normal transmission now...
