It's a KOMET boring system. The extensions are really rigid. A lot of light cuts to prevent deflection and chatter.
With the right combination of extensions, I was able to just clear the top bore.
It worked pretty well, roundness is under .0001" and the concentricity between the two bores is under .0002".
I'm happy with that.

I'm confused. The upload date on the video is 2011.

Are you building this now, or did you do some of the work a few years ago?

If I were to flip the fixture and do the second bore, that would be an opportunity to introduce error. This worked really well. When uninstalled the pivot shaft, it went in smooth as glass.

The shock mount on the swing arm, The tube clamp portion is slightly offset, and the mount block is offset, making for a few combinations of leverage adjustment. That shock is not going to be used, its just for checking clearance of the lower shock eye.

This is some great work. Keep the updates coming.

I really miss having access to Haas equipment.

I really don't miss working in a machine shop.

A VF2 in my garage would suit me nicely.

I'm curious as to why the 848... power to weight, or a personal affinity?

Looks beautiful - really nice work there.

A little of both really. The horse power is just right for the application, I don't follow the "bigger is better" mindset.
There are a couple unique features that will become apparent once its complete.
