Test rode a BMW C600 Sport today

BMW demo days here in St.John's this weekend. I took a C600 Sport out. I liked it a lot. The heated seat and grips were pretty nice.

Tomorrow I'm gonna test ride the C650 GT and the K1600 GTL (like this one).

I looked at one yesterday, very nice and very expensive too. I'm very interested in getting a bigger cc scooter. I also checked out a Burgman 400 which I didn't like so much. I wish we had that new Xmax 400 here. Still the C600 is very nice and I want one. Hmmmm.

I thought about a used Tmax as well. I've never had a scooter and want to try one instead of a motorcycle for a while. The reason I want a big engine is to be able to tour and cruise comfortably at freeway speeds. The BMW certainly checks those boxes.

I found the Burgman cramped for my size as well as the C650GT. The C600 felt just right but at over 11K out the door kinda hard to justify that. I might be able to though...

I hit the request a qoute button on the local dealer's website and got emailed back the same info that is on their website. Sent them another email saying that I was requesting a qoute and someone from sales sent me more info and asked that I come in and talk. I guess they don't want to sell me a scooter. Dealers.

Occassionally a guy at work rides his k1200LT and it makes my R1200GS look like a scooter. Can't even imagine riding one of those; even with reverse.

The BMW scooters are appealing. I specifically avoid my dealer during their free test drive weekends because I don't want to get hooked (again). What I don't know won't cost me .

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts comparing the Sport and the GT. Take a look at the storage on the GT and see how it compares with others you might have ridden. Have fun!

Very few BMW dealers will quote you anything other than MSRP over the phone or email. Why should they? If you're not willing to come in why would they waste their time answering your fishing emails?

Because the button says request a quote on their website. I had already been in to see if I liked the scooter and it's a bit of a drive to the dealer. I was simply trying to find out what the total cost would be OTD. If that's fishing so be it.

Tell them to bring one over to your house to talk. Offer them free coffee and donuts. That's what they'll do if you go to them.

It is a lot of money for a scooter, but it is a lot of scooter (size, features, etc.) And a lot of us picked scooters over MC's for lots of reasons. If I had the money to spend on one, I think I'd choose it over an MC for all the reasons I chose my 250cc scooter over a 250cc MC. But the BMW's has more power and options that aren't on most scooters.

List price on the 2011 TMAX was about $8500 for 150 cc less, about 20 hp less, less storage, non adjustable windscreen, no heated grips or seats and no abs. (Think I covered everything.)

PS. I love my TMAX.

The TMAX seems like the bees knees that's for sure. Too bad the newer model isn't being imported with ABS.

I would be concerned about BMW pulling out of the scooter market after a year or two, then being left without proper support.

That's one of my biggest concerns too. I'm still going to go look at the C600 though, if only to satisfy my curiosity. Local dealer only had the GT when I went by there. I figure BMW motorcycles isn't going anywhere, and the scooters seem to be selling well enough in Europe, so I'm thinking parts will at least be available to order.
