Four Wheeled Adventure in a VW Euro-Van Camper….Trip Report….

I used to post my/our motorcycle Adventures here on ADV as you can see in my signatures…then I stopped riding three wheelers. But the call for Adventuring was so strong that another Adventure had to begin but via Cage, a lingo used among the ADV group: a four wheeled contraption! I always enjoyed the ADVrider website and I wanted to post my reports again however…. >
Since I am not allowed to post my Cage Adventures in the exalted moto “Ride Report”, it was suggested that I go to the basement (another lingo) and post my travels under the ‘Fluff’ heading and in “Shiny Things”.
So here I am now giving you a four wheeled ride report in a 2002 VW Eurovan Winnebago Camper. Our destination is to circumnavigate clockwise the Canadian Maritimes. Starting in Montreal, QC > Quebec City > catching a cargo ship at the end of QC Rt. 138 in Natashquan; being ferried along the St. Lawrence river coastline and stopping at 4 fishing villages > debarking at Blanc Sablon, QC > entering/exploring Labrador > exploring Newfoundland > Nova Scotia > New Brunswick and finally back to the USA in Maine.
So come along with me, an experienced outdoor oldie, ever faithful campette, Sharon and our Dachshund, ‘Emma’ for a new la vida loca adventure.

From this ....

To that....

Left Wilmington North Carolina and slabbed it on the Interstate (“thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel from coast to coast without seeing anything”-Charles Kuralt) to Germantown to visit friends then headed to Pennsylvania for another stopover at friends. All was good and jolly with lots of Bacchus juice flowing; pizza eating; crab cakes; dipping in the pool, etc. Then it was off to parts north.

******
First night was at a Farm campground in Poland, NY…great place NE of the Catskill Mountains; it rained buckets in the late afternoon and night. But...
Before pitching Camp Sharon spied a NY pizza joint when going through this small Town..she had to get a slice....a true NY'er she is. "best pizza on the planet bar none"...

Satisfied, we found a campsite on a family farm...

Camping Life...

Second night we entered the mighty Adirondacks. Camped at the Meacham Lake State public campground. They had us right on the shore of the Lake; no flies…but again it rained buckets all afternoon. It’s been 2 days into the Northern adventure and it rained every afternoon…ggrrr. Global warming..!!??

This is what I'll build one day....genuine handmade Maine canoe..

Outfitter store in the Adirondacks.. $$$$

Who says things are big in Texas...

More to come....

cheers....

Having difficulty posting pictures; down/up loading at the camp ground. Didn't realize that here I am only allowed to view my e-mail and browse the net, nothing more! So whenever a St'Bucks/ MacDonald/Tim Horton is in sight I'll upload and post the next episode. Have about 86 pictures to show of what Montreal is all about..wooo... Stay tuned!.

cheers...

Bonjour....

Sitting here at Le Tim Hortons; Canada's MacDonald? Really a notch above USA's McD. Wait till I show you Quebec's McD. WiFi at TH seems to work..but for how long and how fast a bandwidth?

It's raining dog and cats..really heavy..about 65 degrees today (Friday). Might rain all day, but yesterday we had a grand day in downtown Montreal. Very European...heavy mixture of Asians; Africans and who else us Americans! We found where most locals mingle and eat...so we went there...big difference. Will post more later on.

Ok, back to posting what was left behind.

The Adirondacks

Emma doesn't look too happy being outdoors ever since, missed her soft sofa ??

The air is so pure...puts you to sleep early..

********

Last big Town before the Canadian Border..

And guess what Sharon spies another "last" NY pizza place!

and you guessed it...

We ate it across the street in a city park, whose lawns were quite littered with Dog poop even though there were Dog litter bags avaialble.

Honoring those fallen in Wars we're involved in...hope that this is it?

Done with NY pizza; Adirondacks; now on the way to the Border. We were seeking less congested Border crossings as there were quite a few. Drove up to Malone, NY rolled along rt.11 and chose our entry.

Entered Canada at Herdman, NY. Small, friendly.."Got guns?"; "selling anything in Canada"; "how long you're staying"; "Welcome, Bonjour-safe trip". "we got a Dog!.. "Fine, have fun was" the reply..

71 km = 44 mi > Montreal through a clean country side...

Came to a Town( don't remember it's name)...

Went out to seek a WiFi hot spot and noticed a McDonalds.. lo and behold a high tech McD.

They take their coffee's seriously here. Great coffee..almost close to St'Bucks at $1.25 a cup.

Found a KOA campgrouind 20 minutes from Montreal. Settled Emma at a Doggie Kennel for 2 days. She's learning French....

Then headed for our first Montreal eye opener.

Le Steak Frites

Aoli butter for the Fries and herbed garlic butter to top the steak with...delicioso!

Went back to our last Campground; picked up Emma. She was in good hands, missed us.

Then all Hell broke loose on the way to Quebec. Pictures do no justice here; the VW rocked and rolled with the winds... woe to those who were motorcycling!

Had to stop as Emma was panting; had her poop in the rains, got some coffee and a Burger at McD. Got gas 3/4 full.. $65.00- 91 octane.

Off autoroute 40 saw this sign... ah, cheeserie! Had to make a visit..

The real stuff; raw milk cheeses, no FDA'ized stuff. Full of probotics...smells like hell, tastes like heaven. Oh, man me happy!

It's from them.... No Corporate Merde!

From here I am uploading this...

St'Bucks/ Quebec...

Looking for a Motel/Hotel now. Too wet and stormy. After one week of camping..nice to have a break and watch CNN ??

Bonne Nuit!
