Australian perspective of the---Le Tour De France 2013

Yes folks

Its on again.

M/C content is easily recognisable, its from those magnificent riders with amazing skills who bring you the Le Tour into your lounge room.

Sit back and take a m/c view of the race, the scenery, the roads. It is incredible

I was very fortunate to be there and follow the last week when Cadel Evans won in 2011, and rode those roads, on my F800GS, Amazing!!

As for drugs, it has been a bane on the race since way back in the 1920's!
Sad but true.

Let the 100th Tour begin

PS Mods, let this thread run for a few days, before moving it, there are 11 Aussies riders involved this year, just to get awarness of an amazing event, as realised by SBS who will cover the tour live from Day 1.

You will enjoy, trust me, I spent 2 months riding those roads and many others.

This year I'm riding the USA and Canada, starting next Friday

No sin Chris but the ADV sports thread gives a wider world perspective.
You will get like minded folks from around the globe contributing.

I have to agree. There's enough Aussie interest I believe to leave a thread here. Between the Green Edge team, Cadel and all the other Aussies competing or involved behind the scenes, allow this indulgence. The international racing thread attracts too many inmates that belong in the basement. I won't read or contribute to that one, but would here. The alternative is to join a cycling Forum, but I'd rather stay here on ADVRider - it's bad enough having my work, rally bike and wife take second place for 3 weeks, but ADV as well. JMHO of course.

Piss this thread off. This is adventure riding site not a sports site. We had soccer, footy and next there will be cricket, tennis etc. Leave this forum for what it should be. Motorcycles

Hope to see some good Aussie info here over the next few weeks. Beats wading through the international sites.
We're all ADV riders and we like our sports. If you don't like sports, DONT COME HERE!
Go Aussies!

We also have - Audi ... purchasing (or not) from the internet, where to stay, trucks ...

Leave the thread alone. If it does not interest you, don't open it. Many threads I don't open ... in fact most of them. May be 10% of the Aus, Airhead and random of the 'new threads' page.

Yep. I do look at the roads and scenery as well as the racing of the tour. Same on the Dackar .. the scenery there can be amazing!

For me, a cyclist since I could walk reckon that following the Tour on an Adventure Bike would be the ultimate holiday. I have contemplated hiring a road maggot and cycling a stage then watching a stage and so on, while the wifey and kids travel ahead and enjoy the towns. The motorcycling angle though is definitely a great idea

Had a nap this afternoon and am aiming for another tomorrow to help get through the first week.

Went over to follow Le Tour 7 years ago - on the human-powered machine - and a had a fantastic time. Did all the big climbs to help justify the afternoon beers and nightly Bordeaux. The scenery in the alps was worth the hard work.

Get a real buzz now watching on SBS and seeing sections of roads I have been on. Even better watching the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and the short, sharp cobbled climbs of de Ronde having ridden those and having climbed the fence with the pushie to do a few laps of the Roubaix velodrome.

So much respect for the moto riders and cameramen and would love to take the 650GS back to see how long I could stay upright on the wet and muddy cobbles or how long I could stay in front of the best riders as they descend from the big cols.

Reckon Cadel will be thereabouts but am more interested in seeing how Ritchie Porte goes working with Froome after they got 1 and 2 at both the Criterium International and Criterium du Dauphine.
