DR650 Instrument Tower - Rallye navigation bracket

Well, some of us actively participate in the Forums...and some of us are silent watchers, studing and learning from others experiences and projects...
I consider my self to be in the second group of inmates...thus, this thread is just in order to return some of the inspiration that this forum gave me in order to launch myself in this and other projects.

My apologies are given to anybody that considers to be offended by my poor spelling and limited vocabulary. Im afraid that english is not my preffered lenguaje to write.
Also I am really sorry about some of the quality of the pics...Im not a photographer....



OK.
I am not a Rally rider, but I really like to enjoy my free time in adventure rides with my friends.
I currently use an Old DR650, which has proven to be extremly reliable, easy to tune up, easy to fix on the road, with a few weak points that can be solved and easy to power it up.
One of the thing I consider weak, is the possibility to read the instruments while Im standing on the footpegs (Im afraid that unless Im traking a dirt Tracker style curve, Im allways standing up on the pegs).

So this is my way of solving things without a tIG/MIG welder (which I do not own).
Hope it can give you some ideas.

Very nicely done. I wonder if your modifications would easily transfer to the "second generation" (1996+) DR650.

Yes, it would be easy.
All you need is to weld some kind of fixed points in order to mount the tower on it..

I use an old and trustfull electric arc welder...
You can see the fixed ponts in this pic..

I always work in a complete bike at a time.

Lets say that:

Complete dissasembly (including engine).
Frame chopping (everything that was not necesary was chopped), revison for cracks, welding for new points, frame modiication, front suspension modifications ( stock modified with springs, preload adjusters and air purge), rear suspension mods (I use a DR350 shock, re valved, new springs), wheels (rear is now a 18x 2.5, so I generally use a 140/80/18), new electric circuit (engine is independant from electrical circuit if necesary), all engines bearings changed, First and 3rd gear new, oil pump new, clutch modified for heavy loads and oil temp, Wiseco piston kit, ported admision, oil seals, o rings, Chains (trans and Balancer), etc....
Took me 1.5 years.....

Was fast... because Ive started from a complete bike...
LAst year I started a Street Tracker just because I saw a Frame and a fuel tank......man...this one is hard to build.... I`ll post some pictures...
