On the technology. It's not really fair to compare it to tennis where the only call is on the line or not (same will apply when it's used on the goal line in football).

There's a hell of a lot of things to consider in an LBW decision.
No kidding, what a contest. The opening partnership made things look a bit gloomy for England. Great result, exciting day.

I agree that using technology for edges and LBW is much more difficult than a line call in tennis. All the more reason to delay its introduction until a rock solid, comfidence-inspiring solution is devised. That said, the human hardware wasn't much better, umpire Tony Hill reportedly had a torrid Test.

Waiting to see if the Umpire gives you out is small beer compared to claiming a catch that bounced or bowling underarm....
Well neither is against the Rules .. 'Claiming' an LBW is allowed .. and of course underarm bowling has always been allowed ... You blokes should learn to read

Ironic. You didn't read what I said.
I was talking about the moral high ground, not the rules.
Generally cricket is a game played by gentlemen, with the Aussie team being the exception...

You just hate it because the MCC had to cheat to win the Ashes

Difference between Gentlemen and Softcocks is all in the accent ..

And another thing - Dan Carter is a softy woose

Looks nice.

The problem the AB's have got is that with Carter out, he can't cover Nonu at 2nd5/8, so they've had to put Ryan Crotty on the bench to cover that one postion. This leaves them with a problem if either of the wingers or fullback is injured. If that happens, you could see Bowden Barrett at fullback or Nonu on the wing. Not a good idea.

Well here we go again. TMS on the radio, the sun is shining, I'm anticipating my afternoon Pimms and some more good Test Match cricket.

Its 20:20 hindsight by now of course... but we are going to struggle to get anything out of this game with 3 proper bowlers.
Horrible for Kerrigan, I really feel for him, but he's having trouble hitting the strip.
Woakes is slightly better, but hardly pulling up any trees.

Great first day by Australia. Are England reduced to hoping for a draw, or am I being premature?

It's the Oval, always a good batting wicket. 300 is par for the first day. For Australia to win, they'll need to declare early and hope to knock over England quickly and cheaply. Not easy on this wicket.

Yep. When the Aussies are 450+ and declare, then we can start paying attention.

If this series (and others) have shown us, one day does not necessarily a test make....

Obi-wan speaks the truth - this crop of Aussies have a NZish fragility when batting.

Yep, absolutely right.
That's the beauty of Test cricket.
Tell you what though, it'll take something pretty spectacular to turn this one round.
