Sparky sort of a first day, enjoyed listening (on and off).
Good start!

Right.
Mixed sort of a performance from me on the first nights cricket. Tea only a partial success.
Tonight, I am going to see how beer helps with staying awake.
Looking forward to seeing how Carberry gets on, also seeing M. Johnson bowling.

Ooooh, Ryan Harris out! Broad onto 6-for!

I see they say it's a wicket with runs in it and that Australia's 295 is terrible. But then England are 55-2 at lunch. Maybe the wicket isn't what they think it is?

I'm not seeing too much in the wicket, not too much movement off the seam. Have we had any LBW shouts?
I think we are seeing the top order batsmen getting themselves out really.
First game nerves... almost trying too hard. Along with some long-standing weaknesses in technique, Clarke, Trott etc.
Like the way Carberry is going about things.

89-7. What a collapse.

Any rain in the neighborhood?

No rain at the moment. The gabba is located in an area that gets high humidity though....
Not a fan of Broad being booked I must say. Though in hindsight he kinda deserves it

Saw him play in a 20Twenty down here in Kent earlier in the year (first and only one I've ever been to - corporate hospitality from my business bank of all things - and quite enjoyed it which was a surprise). Very impressive player.

One of the commentators said that England paid the price for being completely unadventurous throughout their first innings. That sounds fair. While I was watching, scoring runs certainly didn't seem to be a priority. It was dull stuff.

Test match cricket is hard, and it is supposed to be.
But yes, that session after lunch you could feel that there wasn't the blend of being solid, and keeping the runs ticking over. We kind of got suckered into just digging in, thinking it was only a matter of seeing out time and the runs would then follow. It is not that easy.
Then at a certain point the frustration kicked in, and too many got themselves out stupidly trying to be positive all of a sudden.
It just wasn't a well thought out innings.
If the going gets tough, then by all means dig in, but you have to be looking to nick singles and keep the strike rotating too.
There is nothing new in that.

I feel let down.
Still. It'll be a hell of a save from here!

Maybe, just maybe, Australia could be playing some good Cricket - perhaps.

Except that after their first innings, everyone said 295 was a disaster. I see they're now 280-4 in their second innings, which is more like what everyone seemed to expect from this wicket. How to explain the first innings by either team?
