What were you expecting for $1600.It's a fantastic base bike to play around with.

Egoland has a valid point. Straight out of the ACE is slow and does not handle or go that well. The title of this thread is a winters project fixing all the above.

Sticky tires $140
Piggy back shocks $90
Spacers under the fork caps zip
Custom made front brake hose $90
VM22 carb $60
150cc barrel and big valve head $280

Now, the ACE is fun to ride. Pulling small monos off the lights while racing traffic. Pulls up very steep hills around my place in 3rd gear instead of 1st gear in stock form. It is hard not to come back from a ride with a huge smile on your face.

Hi Dan,
I've figured out how the speedo comes apart now and I've brought a brighter bulb on eBay. I'll let you know how it looks once I install it. Was just wondering if the piggy backs/fork spacers make much of a difference? And also where you sourced them from? ooracing?

Cheers

I bought the piggy backs from OO and just used some washers from Bunnings to make a shim stack on top of the spring.

Out of the box. You would be lucky to get to 80 kph. Now it would to be in the area of 110- 120 kph. OO racing have got 135 kph on a dyno.

From 80 to 110 kph. That would be an increase of about 40 % in top speed.

Going on tinkering

Here is the new cockpit with fast opening handle and special left comodo (from OOR). It gives nothing but sporty look and confidence the carb is open !

Top speed is now 122 km/H and 9200 T/mn, by hauling à 17x34 gearing. I'll try a 16T. sprocket to get more revs.

About the fork, I tried 15 mm. spacers on springs but I removed them. The lift down is now 75 mm. with 30 SAE Sikolene oil. The volume is not estimated.

The rear shocks are Hagon road 340 mm. A bit hard when new but perfect now and I prefer their vintage look.
Vintage look also for the Dunlop K82 tires: perfect grip and comfort . The night and the day vs. stock tires.

Could'nt resist putting the bottle opener on!

$100.00 shocks from China that actually work well and fully adjustable.

The Red footpegs have added at least 2hp !!

I rode mine today for the first time in awhile due to most crappy weather in many years. I have forgotten just how quick around town. This little bike is, now with the 150. Had a young guy have a go at me his new Honda CB125R. He was stunned about quick the ACE is. What have you got in that thing he yelled at the lights?:loll
