Day 2 St Joseph, MO to Casper, WY (About 720 miles) I did not keep a daily mileage log..

This is the only day I didn't take a picture.. I know, what a way to start a RR! Sorry. I just didn't get the camera out..

We took I-29 up to Nebraska 2, and cut over to Lincoln. Then we jumped on 80 over to Grand Island NE. Back on Nebraska 2 northwest. Nebraska 2 isn't all that bad, it's a nice two lane through the sand hills. We made decent time, not nearly as many 18 wheelers, a few turns and hills..

We made great time to Lusk WY, which was our expected stop for the day. Then I had the brilliant idea to push on. It seemed too early to stop, so I suggested Douglas. The next 45 minutes were a bit crazy. We rode into some pretty dark storm clouds. The rain hit, and then the hail. Pretty good sized hail. No pics.. It hurt, . It looked later like I had been used for a paintball target. Nice purple bruises. (no pics)
Then a few miles of gravel as the GPS took us in to Douglas, the back way. It was nice to see how the loaded pigs would do on gravel. No big issues. The only problem was there were two big weddings going on in Douglas. No rooms to be had. So we pushed on up to Casper. Got our first look at mountains! For me it means we're getting out west. We went through an area of all sage brush going over to Douglas, I remember the smell.. It was good to be back. Sorry about the pics.. I'll put up day 3 Douglas to East Glacier..

Day 3 Casper to East Glacier (about 660 miles)
Pretty much an uneventful day. Interstate into Montana, then we headed north towards Glacier.

So for the three days riding (including my miles from St Louis to St Joseph Mo) We were making good time..

Stopped to put on some rain gear, if I remember correctly, we got a bit wet, but not too bad.

We had a glimpse of the Bighorns the day before, but today it felt like we were getting to the good stuff.

We stayed at some cabins near East Glacier.. We got our first taste of mosquitoes.. Whew, they were relentless, and numbers I'd never seen before. Had a great meal over in East Glacier.

I was really looking forward to tomorrow, Glacier NP.. I'd heard so many good things about the Road to the Sun. We were lucky, we heard they had just opened up the road two days ago. We were going to be able to ride it. That's for Day 4..

Good stuff! Like many, I don't have the luxury of time these days. So seeing a ride report where you cram as much in as possible is nice!

this sounds like a ride I may do myself someday. I am also locked into the 2 weeks a year thing, and I am in my mid-50's.

I'm in!

thanks for taking us along

Too funny! I saw y'all near Lusk this day as I was doing a marathon car-based road trip from LA to Mpls. I was driving ahead of the big storms and recall hoping that y'all would get through them okay. FYI, there were tornado warnings between Casper and Lusk. Here's a quick smartphone pic I took of the wall cloud just outside Casper:

I'm lucky enough to accumulate a lot of vacation each year, and can take 3-4 weeks off for big trips if I plan ahead. Glad you're making the best of what you've got, and I look forward to reading/seeing more of your trip!
