AZ Turkey Creek to CK

Seeing how I missed out on 4Play's last ride through Turkey Creek, I asked for a repeat. He and Yardstick put together a route that was doable on the Super Enduro, Yardstick was riding.

The "Beast"

Roger Razr joined us in his new Razr 1000

4Play's new to him WRR adorned with his tagline from his racing days. Something to do with the number of cylinders in his class. Very cool.

Some of the climbs would be a challenge on a big bike. But not for Yardstick. It was a beautiful thing to see him attack the technical sections.

You would think a Razr would be slowed by some of those technical sections, but you would be wrong when Roger is at the wheel. He can flat make that thing fly.

We needed to shed layers almost immediately.

Roger cooking along next to Turkey Creek. We crossed that creek at least ten times.

4Play and Yardstick descending the staircase.

Roger doing the same.

It was a perfect day to ride!

Luckily, Turkey Creek is wide but not so deep.

When we got to Cleator, our buddy Refokus was waiting on his DR.

We headed north to Mayer on 101. After climbing the mtn we came to this big mining operation.

Refokus left us at Mayer. We gassed up and headed for Poland Rd. We passed through the hamlet of Breezy Pines and took 504. It is a fast 2track that ends up at the divide of upper and lower Yankee Doodle.

Lots of water crossings today. Yardstick

Roger Razr making waves

We decided to cut out the Bodie Mine loop and opted for lunch at the Mill!

The trip down the front way to Cleator was a very fast one. No time for pics!
At Cleator, Yardstick split for home and 4Play, Roger and I headed back through Turkey Creek at near race pace. I was a wondering how long my itty bitty stock 2 gal tank would last. I ran out of gas on the big straw, here. That speck in the distance is my white truck.

It was a fantastic day to be out in the Bradshaws, riding with good friends! Life is very good

It was a very fun day, Poland road & Big Bug to Senator is beautiful stuff.
Once on Senator we played musical bikes & we all quipped "I don't know how you ride that thing" to each other. Yardstick took a turn on my 250 & accused me of buying it for the Monkey/football rally. I went from his 100HP SE back to my 250 & thought it was broken for a few miles until it finally got back up to speed.

After all these years, I never even knew The Mill was there. Every time I heard somebody refer to it (3 or 4 times over the last 5 years) I always assumed they were talking about the Saloon. Pulled up the imagery on Google to check it out and sure enough, there it is. I'll have to give it a try next time...

Nice pics, Slowred! I only took my camera out a couple of times. It seemed like I was either too slow to catch the action or I was working hard to ride the big ol' beast of an SE through that terrain without hurting myself.

I think everybody commented about how big that tank looks. That's the Powercell tank. It's only about 5.5 gallons and actually feels pretty slim. It looks huge because it has to straddle that V-twin engine and trellis frame! Maybe graphics would help?

The only other shot I took was of the cabin North of Cleator. It seems like forces of nature and gunpowder are rapidly deteriorating that structure.

I had a blast on the little 250! It took me a minute to realize that it requires some fancy footwork to be in the right gear all the time and that I didn't really have to slow down much for turns. Coming from the SE, it did feel really small and under-powered, though.

Here's the route (what I recorded anyway - I skipped the return through Turkey Creek to snag a cushy ride home in a truck ).

And the elevation profile.

Because the tank is translucent, the best part was watching the fuel level drop before our eyes. Those SE's are thirsty beasts!
