We find a nice spot for the tent. Helen goes to work...

...while I walk around in circles with the camera.

It looks like she could use some help...

Monument Valley is visible in the distance.

Easy

I crawl out of the tent around midnight to a perfect night sky. The moon had set. There were only the stars.

I did not add the green and purple streaks. I'm wondering if it was created by Northern Lights this far south?

I've got a peaceful easy feeling...

Day 2

360 Degree View

Up at sunrise, we pack quickly and are on the road early.

We get to ride the rest of Valley of Gods Road.

The idea for this photo was shamelessly stolen from Questor, who did it years ago. It's not even the first time I copied it.
We were riding along when I saw Helen had the camera out, so I flipped her off.

A little washboarded at times, but nothing like we'll see later today.

We rode down the hill to the extreme left side of the photo and have all of the fun stuff to the right to ride still.

Outstanding photography as usual, I was telling a friend about your ride reports and sent her a link to all 25 rides......needless to say, she was impressed. She's made a pretty fair living for the past 15 years selling her photographs.....she knows the real deal when shs sees it.

I've got an old Pentax K100 and an assortment of point and shoot cameras, but I think it may time to add to the herd. I like the AA solution for power with my old K100. I bought a Canon G1 when they first came out and that POS burned thru batteries so fast that I had to carry three when I left the house.....That old K100 takes outstanding pictures though. We were just at Zion and Bryce a coupls of weeks ago and the reds and blues jump out at you they are so bright and crisp right out of the camera....without any post processing.

I'll have a look at the Olympus, thanks, Mike

Mokee Dugway & Muley Point

You get an aerial view of Valley of the Gods as you climb the Moki Dugway.

This section of gravel switchbacks are on the otherwise paved Highway 261.

Helen spots this wreckage way over the edge.

At the top of the Moki Dugway we hang an immediate left...

...to head out to Muley Point.

You can see a white Jeep down on John's Canyon Road.

Monument Valley is in the distance. Agathla Peak is near the center and Black Mesa is in the background.

We turn off the main route to explore a jeep trail towards the western edge of the point.

If you've read my other reports, then you already know I love John's Canyon Road, but we're not riding that this trip.

We make our own temporary rock art.

One of my dream rides. I'd love to know more about the route.

Also, those are some of the most amazing looking starry night shots I've ever seen.

On a big circle I made last year I passed on Muley Point because an "expert" had told me that the deep sand was a major problem on a big dual sport bike....I see you evidently were not similarly advised. So, is it way technical or not. I had read that there was going to be a ride to Muley Point in honor of Verle Nelson perhaps in the fall and I had not planned on going until reading your report.....I figure if your big KTM can make it my DL1000 should be OK as well.

Great photography and great report, thanks, Mike

By far the "BEST" Rider reports on ADVRider. I have seen every one of yours and I don't think I have ever seen a photo by you that is not Front Page worthy. Now I'll get off your leg. haha.. Really you do take stunning photo's. I know you spend a lot of time with your photo's afterwards so what do you use for your post processing? I need to learn to do this. Maybe time to upgrade the Canon Rebel DSLR 5mp. Haha...
