RideFreak, I noticed your Canyonlands Adventure Ride 2013 report, but haven't had time to finish it. Looks great!

Thanks for joining in ckjj888, Liberia, Skowinski, & adventurebound9517.

Screen savers are OK, gumshoe4.

Jamie, you remind me there are so many other reports I should get caught up on.

mr.slowpokey,
The Moki Dugway is only 2.5 miles long. Valley of the Gods Road is 16 miles.
The Halls Crossing to Bullfrog Landing was the closed ferry. The only one I know of at Lake Powell.
I would bet the low water levels closed it as it is usually open year round.
The key to seeing bright stars is to get many miles away from the city lights on a clear moonless night.
It helps to be at higher elevations in the desert where the air is dry. The Milky Way is higher in the sky
in the summer and the southern section has more definition. On this trip the moon was setting about
2 hours after sunset and I waited a couple more hours for the skies to be really dark.

And just for LadyBug0048, here's a larger look at my new avatar. Now you'll know why I keep the helmet on for most pictures.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check before we ride all the way and find out its closed. The new GSA will be more fun to ride than the KLR, especially on highway 12. I almost went for the 990, but couldn't find anyone in town that had one in stock to look at. They are awesome bikes.

Day 3

I'm not afraid to admit I did a little paddling getting up the sandy hill to the main road leaving our campsite.
The bike is still wearing the Heidenau tires we bought in Fairbanks. Must be 8,000 miles or more by now.

More Fun on Highway 12

Bryce Canyon National Park

We changed into hiking gear. Helen wants to do the only loop we've not hiked before.
It is about 6 miles and I'm not sure I can make it. I'm still very sore and stiff from yesterday.

Bryce Canyon Hike

So Helen wanted to stretch her legs on another 6 mile hike.
The loop she chose included one of the only trails we haven't hiked here.
We started at Sunrise Point and hiked down the switchbacks into Wall Street.

There are a few tall trees in Wall Street that reach way up for a little light between the Hoodoos.

The trail is steep! Keeping up with Helen isn't gonna be possible.

I use the excuse of stopping for photos to force her to slow down and wait for me.

I think this is called the Wall of Windows.

Bryce Canyon is a worthy spot to get off the bike a bit for a hike.

Whew! I'm glad that's over. We don't bother checking out the rest of the park, we've seen it before.
We ride the short distance to Ruby's Inn. We had worked up an appetite so we found the lunch buffet
and bellied up to the trough alongside the busloads of tourists. There was a long line for the salad
and ice cream bar, so I filled up on piles of assorted meats, breads, cakes and brownies.
Sorry, I was to busy eating to remember taking a photo.

After lunch we moseyed over to the RV Park where we paid for showers and got cleaned up.

What an incredible picture. No words are ever enough to express the gratitude of a proud nation for the sacrifice of heroes when they lay down their lives for their fellow man. May God bless them and their families and hold them in his hands.

Day 3 End

We leave Ruby's Inn with our bellies stuffed and feeling squeaky clean. Now we must find a place to hibernate.
Not far west of the park we turn south down the gravel road along the East Fork of the Sevier River. After a little
exploring we settle in at one of the few dispersed and designated campsites for free. (Site 1)

It was nice a cool here.

Helen napped a little and I eventually made dinner while we waited...

for the sunset.

It was another very dark night. I've got that...

...Peaceful Easy Feeling...

...all over again.

That's an embarrassingly short day.
