ROLL THE BONES RALLY TEXAS October 25-27, 2013

Veriest is gonna find all the nasty stuff for you dirt heroes. Mudclod has a date conflict this year with a family reunion but I remain hopeful. He was a godsend last year with his Maraude. It brought smiles to the folks who participated.

Mud has been doing yeoman work mapping in Erath and Palo Pinto counties that I will be begging to get for the terminus of the Rally Raid. He has marked a Brazos Crossing that I will do my best to get on the longest 50/50 Rally Raid route.

What mr2mch is to our little bitty paved stuff, Mud is to our dirt. I incorporate and combine their finds as much as I can for the big dual sport loop. Paved goat paths and big bike friendly dirt.

Oh, yeah scobib. Check your pm's.

I like to call it CR 1134.

EDIT: that may be vague but we'll see who was bored in math class anyway.

It looks like where the locals have been playing with their 4 wheelers and jeeps.

It has a steep grade (currently muddy), 1-1.5 feet deep ruts... all over the sides, middle, etc., random limbs are down, and rocks the size of small block Chevys sit in the line down the middle. Other large rocks are scattered about too. And did I mention the mud? It's currently muddy. Really muddy.

It's good stuff and I have pics on my camera. I'll get them up tonight.

View looking down the hill. What you can't see is the pile of rocks behind those fallen limbs in the center of the road.

Looking back up after scouting a line.

Ruts down towards the bottom.

A shot of what amounts to a mere fraction of the mud on the way out. Scorpions are not knobbies. :sly:

Then I piddled around and made my way back to this georgous piece of gravel so I could run it from the direction we'll be traveling during the rally. Launching off the little ledges was a lot more fun than picking my way up them and the cattle guards make better jumps this way.

Then I decided to look at just one more road and found this guy. ghead:

What makes HD tubes so hard to patch? I hate those and will be replacing front and rear with new tubes tomorrow. Needless to say I couldn't get it to hold air.

Look Ma! No ramps!

MVP gear choice for the day goes to my hydration pack. It was instrumental in hosing my shirt down while waiting on a ride out.

Made a good pillow too.

Yep. Marked and everything.

To their credit the Scorpions got the job done and I didn't get stuck but it was close. I think going up it with them would have been out of the question.

Looks awesome. Michelin AC10's and our little bikes will make that fun.

Keep scouting!!

This is what makes RTB a unique rally experience.

Oh, yeah. What could possibly go wrong with 1000 pounds of bike and rider on a snot slick road with substantial hard rock obstacles and steep grade? I am good to go. ;)
