The Lighthouse tour is pretty cool as well.
I agree it was a perfect campground. I didn't stick around for the lighthouse tour. It doesn't start until 10 AM.

Nice to see you out and about, Dave62538675309!
Looks like you had fun.

Oh, I really like that photo of Cascade Falls!
Beautiful!
Thanks, LittleWan! The pizza definitely wasn't awesome and I was so hungry I should have been biased towards believing their slogan.

Day 7 - PCH

In the morning I rolled through Port Orford where they were painting "OCEAN VIEW" on the pavement.
Today will be all about the OCEAN VIEW.

The Financial Suicide boys must be sleeping in.

What a beautiful day to ride the PCH!

April was built for such roads.

I filled up with a big platter of greasy fried seafood in Crescent City, CA.

Talking Fantastic photos!!

Great report and I loved the videos. I'm going to be on these same roads in four days! I kind of feel cheated having read your report beforehand. Oh well, I'm sure it'll still be awesome. Thanks for the reports.

Lost Coast

After riding through lots of trees...

I turn towards Ferndale.

I follow a couple adventure bikes through Ferndale. I see the sign for Mattole Road and we all turn right.

After riding through a residential area I end up on a fun twisty road...

heading towards the coast.

At some point the other riders did a U-turn and headed back.

I have always wanted to ride Mattole Road, but have never made the time on previous trips choosing the Avenue of the Giants instead.

What's this? I thought Mattole road was paved the whole way. Maybe not? It has been awhile since I read anything about this road.

It turned back to asphalt...

Then back to gravel. April doesn't mind getting dirty, but we don't have time for 50 miles of gravel. An oncoming minivan caught us by surprise in one of the blind corners, so we were riding cautiously.

Defeated, I turned around and headed back...

I guess I'll need to return some other day to ride this on the KTM.

I planned to make it to a certain campground tonight.

We jump on the freeway to make up for lost time.

Doh!

I can see now that I was actually on Centerville RD (and near the end of it) when I gave up and turned around.
I was following the other bikes when I missed the left turn just after the right turn at the end of downtown Ferndale.

In my defense, I can see how I missed this faded sign...

Google Street View

but how did I miss this big sign and bright yellow arrow?!

AKMotorbiker, Thanks for the feedback on the videos. I'm never sure if video is worth the time and effort. You aren't cheated. This little report does not compare to riding these roads yourself. Have a great time.

Day 7 End

The section of the PCH from Leggett and all the way to San Francisco is my favorite. Leaving Leggett and
heading towards the coast is an absolutely exhilarating ride. This late in the day there was very little traffic.

It was a beautiful and sunny day on the coast. Where's the June Gloom?

I stopped in Fort Bragg for fuel and another Subway sandwich. I tossed the sandwich in the pannier and headed to a favorite campground.

It was near sunset when I got to Navarro River Beach. There are 10 primitive campsites near the beach here.
After Cape Blanco Campground this place seemed like a rip-off at $25 for a small primitive site in the sand and
only pit toilets. The sites were all full. Crap! Now where will I sleep.

I grab my sandwich and camera gear and walk out onto the beach to enjoy my dinner and the sunset.

It was a bland and cloudless sunset, but I enjoyed being on the beach alone.

I get back to the campground and see a couple RV trailers setting up in the day use parking area.
Well, if they are camping here, why not me. I set up the tent next to the bike and crawl into the
tent hoping I'll be long gone in the morning before any ranger heads out this way.

April appreciates the sentiment. In her current predicament she could use all of the encouragement and love she can get.
