i've got both of these, actually, an 06 forester with the 2.5 and a '13 impreza with the 2.0 the impreza is peppier. now, the forester isn't "fast" nor is the impreza "fast" but i have no problem with merging on the highway and being a general hooligan with it.

we are getting a lifetime average of 32.5 mpg thats about 50/50 city highway as the impreza is a commuter. this is with the CVT. part of what makes it feel so bland IS the cvt. put it in "sport mode" and it comes alive much better.

RE the yoko tires .. they BOTH suck. a lot. like a really, really lot. my wife's has less than 30k on it yet and even though they check the alignment every time it comes it for an inspection she STILL has cupping and a lot of road noise. reading online indicates this is a known and "sucks to be you" problem.

Yes I believe so (lock up of some sort, I'd assume electronic). Seems a brilliant way of doing it to me. The torque converter bit is pretty standard fare for autos, but it's bolted to something that's roughly the same as a DCT-style gearbox (basically a manual gearbox/clutch that's shifted/clutched by a computer).

A used CPO BMW is better than most new cars.

We test drove a Mazda 6 a few weeks ago. Very fun to drive, and the real time mileage numbers displayed on the dash were pretty amazing while just cruising down the highway.

Also drove a Fusion last week, one with the 2L turbo, and all wheel drive. Firm ride, but quiet. Great looking car too IMHO.

Just got back from driving the 2014 Kia Forte EX with the 2.0 liter engine. Pretty impressive car. For under $20K you get leather, heated and cooled seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, fancy infotainment center, sunroof, 6 speed sport tranny, power everything...oh ya... 5yr 60K on everything and 10yrs 100K on power train.

reported MPG by owners is 25-29 city and 36 or more highway. One guy claims 41 MPG on a recent 200 mile trip.

Motor Trend just voted it the best of the comparable cars they tested.

Has anyone said Sonata yet? Rented one for a 3k mile road trip. It was awesome.

I drove the first 2014 the dealer had about 2 months ago. All he wanted to yap about was the phone interface, told me it was a safety feature, I wanted to smack him. It was nice. I'd like to see the 5 door/hatch back.

I tinted the windows.

It's got a bose stereo, sunroof, leather, zeon headlights, and handles like a go-cart. Fast as shit too. Hatch back with a fold down rear seat for perfect for going to and from college.

This(was) my 2010 Mazda 3.

You chose right, I(And my passenger) walked away from this wreck without scratch, near head on collision, I was going 35mph, other driver was going 50mph. Didn't even hurt("What's that white thing on my steering wheel?", it was my airbag), thought it was a fender bender until I looked back at it("Holy Shit, my car did a 180, that was a close one"). It got replaced(wreck wasn't my fault) with a 2012 Mazda 3i touring package(paid off in cash). Your only mistake, would be if you got her an automatic.

I drove the 5 door. The room behind the seats is too small IMO. I think we're going to buy the EX sedan. I actually liked it better than the Sonata or the Optima after driving them each about 10 times.

Hard to beat the LX for under $17K on a new 2014 model.

you can get an AWD Impreza for under $20K and Kia and all the rest of them that think the car is an electronic gadget can go pound salt once the snow starts flying. I haven't ruled a Forte out but right now Subaru is the front runner.

I think most of the Subies are pretty fugly. My mom has an Imprezza. She's almost 70. We live where there is plenty of snow and I have a 1 mile + hill to my house that gains 600' in elevation. I haven't used snow tires on my Toyota ever and my 4x4 truck sits all winter. Really a non issue these days.
