Triumph Tiger 955I "What's Wrong With, Why Not"?

As I was weighing my options for price vs return for a heavy weight I cam across the Triumph Tiger which seems to be an excellent value. I wasn't able to find much on high millage tigers (over 100K) and only a few cases of engine damage pre 40K. I have found a few very low millage bikes for under 5k <10K miles. So for the price seems like a great value. Only comparison for the $ would be DL1000 imo, thoughts opinions?

Strengths:
Engine > 100HP
Fuel Capacity
Luggage
2 UP
Fuel Econ

Weaknesses:
British? Not sure Parts? Maintenance seems par?
Suspension limited but its not a KTM

What am I missing???
thanks

I'm not worried about the height I'm 5'11" but used to tall bikes my xr sits at 37" my ST weighs in at 650lbs so i guess a tiger would sit right in the middle.

I found a similar thread should have looked before creating a new one but still interested in new opinions.

i'v put over 60k on them.
wonderful bikes....a bit heavy for off road.
the 2005 was my favorite.
cast wheels and older style engine.

most complaints i have heard are that it is ugly...i like it but then i now ride a wee strom, not a beauty queen either.

I owned/rode a 2006 955i Tiger for 8000 miles/6 months........good bike that matched my 2003 1000 VStrom for the loudest, dirtiest, wind turbulence off of the windshield(s) (tried 5 different windshields). Otherwise, I liked the bike....like most bikes, they have minor issues that can be solved .............. heavy and tall, but a solid bike.

Have had my 06 since last October and about 6,000 miles. After almost thirty years with BMWs it's the best bike I've ever owned. Take the bags off and install the sport screen (about 10 mins.) and she's a screamer in the twistys. Install the bags and touring shield (MRA) and she's ready for cross country. You won't be sorry.

Had an 05 that had 50k miles when I traded it on a new Tiger.

Beautiful motor and a fun/comfortable bike to ride.

They can sometimes have minor issues that are easily overcome.

And yeah, they ain't no dirt bike....

If you ever figure out where you are, and it isn't too far from Mississippi holler at me and you can ride mine. Or maybe even buy it if it suits you.

It's a 2005, not sure bout the mileage, 34,000 +- I think. We are in Florida where they give $1000.00 tickets for lofting the front wheel, and my Tiger is in Mississippi. We will be in Florida full time by October.

Good...Bike has been taken great care of by the previous owner. I haven't used it much unfortunately because of working overseas.
It has great crash bars, OEM heated grips, new $400.00 Corbin seat, new 1" lower cleated Mustang foot pegs, OEM side cases, and top case. The chain, sprockets, and service are all up to date, and in good shape. It has a good battery, and a new gel battery too.

Bad...the reason I have two batteries is the bike stopped charging the battery on a ride home from the north Georgia mountains. It is a common problem, and easily rectified (pun intended), I simply have not had the time to do it. It will also need a new rear tire before you could ride it very far. I am still on the fence about selling it because it is such an unmolested, and sweet running motorcycle.

As for price, I am thinking $4200.00 as is, or $4200.00 + whatever it costs for a new rear tire, and rectifier and/or stator to cure the charging issue. It could be something else for all I know, but as yet haven't had the problem diagnosed.

Oh yeah, has a center stand too. Service manual, service records...etc.

Good, then hopefully you'll get to ride/buy one locally then.

I'll probably keep it, and work on controlling my right wrist until I ride out of Florida...

Hey, I know that bike! Picked up "T's" bike from a guy who bought the same one after he traded it in. He had it for a year and put 1,500 miles on it. I've had for a couple of months and added 5K (now at 55K). Love the bike. Motor is great, two up riding works well and the styling grows on you. I'm not planning on dirt biking this puppy, as mentioned - it is heavy. Here's a pic from yesterday leaving the garage loaded down with a full tank of gas. Moved a little to quick when I jumped on it and couldn't stop it from leaning over and taking a nap...
