150 Scooter Thread

Anyone have one, if so tell us what it is how you like it, any other good stuff that might be handy to know.

I have a Kymco Super 8, cant find any info on derestricting it, any ideas about which wire to cut on the cdi to disable the rev limiter or a source for cheap mufflers.

I don't believe the Super 8 150 is restricted.

I have a Super 8 150. I don't believe it is restricted. I do believe it is geared more for acceleration than top speed. Perhaps some Dr Pulley sliders would allow a little more top speed but I have left mine stock so far. Try going to the Kymco forum for more info on mods: http://www.kymcoforum.com/

I don't believe any scooter above 50cc is restricted, other than by engine size and design. The Zuma 125 has a rev limiter to protect the engine, but I have never bumped into it before, so it must be set at a higher rpm than the scooter will go except maybe downhill. Since all 150cc scooters must be registered as motorcycles, the faster they will go, the better they will sell. Just as some people go by price, and some go by mileage, some won't buy a scooter without ABS, or like me, won't buy one with it, many also shop for what has the highest top speed in a certain size range.

I have a Kymco People 150- Handles nice, kind of a blend between modern and retro. Runs GREAT, will lift front wheel off of the ground, STOCK as far as I know.

I went from a honda 1100 ace to a 150 stella.
-the stella is:
1/2-2/3 the wheelbase
1/3 the weight
1/7 the displacement
<1/2 the tire diameter
over 2x the MPG
scarey at speeds over 40 (does 55-60 indicated), twitchy as hell compared to the cruiser that likes to go straight, hella quieter too...

As I haven't had as much fun riding then when I first got on a bike.

Have 2 of them..

1 is blue and titled as a JLC
1 is red and titled as a WANG

Otherwise they are identical. Both are 2008 models.

They are a heck of a lot of fun. Usually just use them around town, but I have taken them out into the country for an afternoon of back roads riding as well. They seem to want to cruise all day at 40-45 , but will run up to 55-60 for a short spell if really pushed. Picked up blue one with about 500 miles on if for 500 dollars. Picked up the red one with only 46 miles on it for about the same.
At that price, I consider them as disposable. I really enjoy stoping at a gas station to fill one up....and putting $4.00 worth of gas in it...

My wife loves riding them.....just twist the grip and away you go!

I have a Honda CH150. It runs fine, it's fast enough to get away from traffic, and it's easy to maneuver around traffic. The real important question about scooter performance is the size of hills and the amount of traffic you face. If you live in a really hilly place 150 is about the least you can live with, day in and day out. If you live where the land is flat then maybe even 50 ccs is enough.

I have a CH150 as well. It's great for my commute to the park and ride, which is all surface streets with a max speed limit of 45mph. On the main drag, I often run WOT in the morning when traffic is sparse. Top speed for me (at about 180 pounds) was 62mph once or twice. More normal is in the 55 range.

There are two scenarios where I wish I had more power:
1. I live in the twin cities, a town divided by the Mississippi River. When I need to cross the river from my house, the only viable option involves a highway. While I can run at 55, it makes me nervous. It's a bridge with some strange merges and on/off ramps at both ends, so lots of traffic change.
2. The local scooter club does some "out of town" rides and the criteria is usually stated as "must be able to maintain 55mph" to participate. I'm not sure how strict they are, but so far I've avoided these rides with some regret.

I think a CH250 would probably be perfect.

I did have a TGB (Taiwanese Golden Bee) rs150, it was a quick little scoot, had a fair bit of torque. I had some electrical issues on it and had too many bikes and sold it. Moved down to a Honda Dio 110 a year later which is built better but nowhere near as fast.
