Berry Pickin and Swimming!

The days are getting shorter and the fruit is ripening on the vines and trees up here in Oregon, but it's still summer for a while longer!
Time to take advantage of those hot days we have left.

LittlePosum and I took off south of Bend for a few days to the Umpqua river basin.

We're really fortunate to be able to take Forest Service Roads right from the edge of town to where we are going over 200 miles away with only traveling about 15 miles of highway.

First night we left town late and only rode about 30 miles. It was nice to just get out and sleep under the stars.

Loading up the bikes

We camped the first night by a creek off the 370 Road.

The next morning we packed up early and headed to Cultus Lake Resort for breakfast.

Posum's bag works really well for securing the cooler to haul the berries home.

It's fun having a mission!

After breakfast we headed over to Highway 58 via Irish, Taylor, and Waldo Lakes.

Then after a short distance west on Hwy58 we started heading south.
I really like this area. I've been to the destination many times, but there is so many routes over there we take a different one every time.

This time was Cougar Mountain.

We were around 1600' in elevation and they are starting to peak.

On to the swim hole!
The North Umpqua Basin has many great tributaries that offer great swimming holes.

Hills Creek Reservoir

Headed toward Highway 138

Camp!
Just a cool little place I know.

This creek is right behind camp

So is this swimming hole we had all to ourselves. It's about 12 feet deep in the middle.

The tent was up top but we chose to sleep on the gravel bar instead

Lots of life

Thumb extravaganza

Woods, water, wildlife! Where's the berries? Perhaps you wait fer to avoid the bears, racoons and ringtails? The suspense! There's ice-cream in the cooler, right? See what happens when we're left to wonder.

We got up early to pick while the weather was cool.

Then back to the creek once it warmed up!

The ride home was our typical haul ass with no stopping because we always leave late. Only took one picture the whole way back.

Mckenzie Pass

The end result.

22 jars of blackberry jam!

I saw you guys go by the house all packed up. Was wondering where you would head this time. Great looking trip as always.
Such a better way of getting jam than just going to the store. Well done.

Awesome dirty way to travel !!
And a GREAT road to start the trip with !!

I was looking forward to that 370 Road from the Todd Lake side at the KTM Rally, but......stoopid fire had it closed .
I've done the section a couple of times from Three Creeks, but always took to the East towards Bend at the gate, and never have ridden the 370 leg to Todd Lake. Now I know I can just keep going until I hit the Umpqua

Thanks for posting the link to this in the Lava Lounge.
I don't always make it to the RR section, but I don't wanna miss this stuff

Berry Pickin and Swimming!

Nice report you two. I really need to get over that way and spend a week, or three. I've run the 370 road a few times and never have gone into Todd Lake. I'm getting ready to take off for a while. Maybe I should head that direction.
