Another KTM 950 ADV 'S' story

After a long time taking the decision, finally I grab this '05 Adventure S from an old friend.
The whole story in a short is that this friend had a terrible car accident, spent almost a year in the hospital and can't drive bikes anymore. He lives at a ocean front place and the bike was parked in a open garage for more than one year. Rust everywhere, specially in the spokes and some aluminum parts that were corroded. Carbs clogged, no battery, liquids out of spec, etc.
So I pick it a year ago and tried to ride it just to keep the beast alive. Changed fluids, cleaned carbs and stay a month with the bike. It needed more money to be in shape but at that time I couldn't afford to have one more bike at home.
Since then the beast was kept in a closed garage for more than a year, waiting for me.
And now, I'm selling my beloved BMW G6560GS and will buy the KTM.
It's winter time over here. Good for an overhaulin.

Overhaulin

First step was disassembling almost everything.
Good way to know better the bike and give her some new stuffs.
Found a KTM expert that did a valve and carbs job. She is running like a cat. A wild one !

Time to take apart tires, wheels and spokes.

Headlight needs to be fixed. Found a company that will recover the surface. A 50 dollars job. And will go back to a normal bulb. No more HID.

WARNING ! disassembling the headlight is a BIG, BIG job. Many hours removing the rubber/glue joint to separate the pieces. Hard not to broke anything. But for us, a new imported part costs around US$ 490 with taxes and all.

Some bolts and nuts need a new zinc coat. Many others at the shop.

Disc brakes with removed, sandblasted to remove the rust and are shinning again.

Certainly. I did a trip with a friend's 990 and felt in love with the off-road capability. Everything I was looking for. I'm an old trail/enduro guy and still love a trail.

A Touratech Zumo 660 holder on the dashboard - yes I think this Zumo is almost useless in daylight
