Doesn't matter. You buy the latest DVD and if you are registered, you get to download the latest update free.

When it works.

I keep getting 'Map Updater can't update because it can't find a previous version of the map product' or some such message. My Montana 650 has 2014.10 right there in the correct folder, and on the sd card as well.

I'll call Garmin when I have built up a little reserve of patience. Running a little short on that right now.

Yeah, I just updated my Montana to 2014.20 using Garmin Map Update v4.5.1 on my Mac and it updated fine. Then used the latest Garmin MapInstall v4.0.2 to update the Montana. All went well.

I did finally sunset Garmin Lifetime Map Update as it was stuck back on a previous version and could not catch up. I attribute this to Garmin Servers and Garmin Express be so screwed up.

I was using the Map Updater I linked in the WaFAQ thread, but I now realize it tends to fail if the LMU is not shut down, and I forgot to do that.

Must remember that. Or, better yet, remove LMU.

Called Garmin today and they got my LMU maps sorted out. They needed to tweek something at their end.

Also, they told me that they have made progress on the Garmin Express front in the last month, and are now suggesting we try using Express with the Montana and other handheld units to update maps and device software.

Too late; I now have 2013.20 on the Montana but I used Garmin Map Update.

Next time, for sure.

Cool. But maybe if you'd used Garmin Express you'd actually have 2014.20.

Or perhaps not. I see Express still says that custom vehicle icons are not compatible with the Montana when I know damn well they are.

Picky, picky!

Well I am confused. After quite some deliberation I decided to run the update on my 660. I was happy to see that Garmin Express now allows for computer and device install.

Anyhow - so 2 days ago I run the update and everything runs through with no issues at all.

The Drop down in MapSource or BaseCamp showed:

"City Navigator North America NT 2014.2" - same on the device (plus some3D file).

Now the confusing part. Last night I hook the device up again and it says:

Update available....Hmmm weird.. Ok.... lets run it again...

It installed another full version of:

"CN North America NT 2014.20"

Everything seems to be running - no issues there. Just wondering if I am the only one and what the difference between "City Navigator North America NT 2014.2" and "CN North America NT 2014.20" is besides the name. Both appear in the drop down by the way. Did a name change on Garmins side really trigger a whole new download...

EDIT:

nvm - the first entry in the dropdown is the local copy, the second the copy on the device. Still weird that it felt it had to install twice tough.
