This is my '14 Honda CRF250L. I purchased this little beast on July 7, 2013 from my local shop. She was very difficult to track down. I purchased this motorcycle to use as my only means of transportation. To date the bike has been an absolute pleasure to ride and own. I'm currently working towards turning this bike into more of a light-weight adventure rig.

Update: 3/28/2014 - The CRF250L has received quite a few upgrades so far. The bike is far better on power and comfort now. I think the only thing I lack, at this point, is a seat concept saddle. I can nearly keep up with my friend on his DRZ400S. The worst part is still the small fuel tank. I can burn through an entire jug with one trip across town.

Update: 5/11/2014 - The CRF250L is nearing it's completion state. I still lack the Seat Concepts saddle and a skid plate. After those bits are acquired, I think I'll be done with the major bits.

Update: 8/13/2014 - A breath of fresh air, is what I should title this update. The CRF has a new airfilter and I've completed the FMF exhaust system with the addition of a powerbomb header. I've also swapped to Positron's EJK settings. To say the bike has more power would be an understatement. I'm no longer considering the big bore kit. Full Race Tech suspension will be next.

Stock Rear Brake Light Modification

I decided to modify the rear brake light/license plate assembly.

Stage 1:
I went the simple route for stage one by eliminating the metal bracket piece that held the license plate on and trimming off the lower portion of the fender piece.


The end result was much less bulky looking but still bugged me a bit.


Stage 2:
I was left unhappy with how bulk and low the license plate was after stage 1. Another forum member gave me the idea to tuck it up even further. This stage took quite a bit more work. I completely disassembled the rear fender assembly and remove the license plate light assembly that stuck out to illuminate the license plate at night. After that I cut/bent/drilled the original metal support structure that the license plate bolted to from the factory. I utilized my new metal support to bolt into where the license plate light used to and then bolt into the license plate itself.


I'm fairly please with the outcome but still think it's too bulky looking. I'll most likely end up with a DRC taillight setup.

Gear Shifter Replacement

Had to replace the stock gear shift lever after my off-road adventure this weekend
I figured it would be one of the first pieces to go. I grabbed a $19 lever off of Amazon.com from the closest vendor I could find because I needed to get to work the next day.

Subscribed! Nicely done. Golf Clap... I'll have to check out that park sometime within the year. I'm over on the otherside of Nashville ATM. Love your bike. I had the old XR250 model and loved it. That one has quite a bit more pep to it and probably much more road worthy.

It's a great place with tons of trails -$17 for the day. Thanks, I love my bike too! I usually get someone commenting on it every day. Mostly just asking what size bike it is. It's sprightly but she could use more pep in my opinion. I'll probably go for a big bore kit sooner than later.

Here's a quick shot of my offroad riding gear. I had a few people ask about it so figured I would just post it up. I don't like to ride offroad without armor. Just personal preference.

This is my helmet/contourROAM setup. My original Bilt helmet's visor flew off on the interstate. They replaced it, same day, with a new white one. I still have it but dislike it. It's loud and heavy. I'll be upgrading as soon as I can afford something better.

Nice Threads....but what are you wearing right now ? lol

If you did it again on bike selection would you have gone up to 400cc or larger?

Yea, I always threw on my armor and pants no matter if just running down on my farm. It's saved me from several cool scars from brush and limbs.

No. I wouldn't do it again. This bike is fan-freaking-tastic. I do want to purchase a purely touring/street oriented bike in the 800cc range. I'm thinking a BMW. As dual-sports go, this bike is light enough and strong enough to do everything I need it to and it's a hoot to braaapp around town on.

Nice... I gotta say those stream-lined 800 BMWs do look pretty sweet. When ya get one, you'll have to drive through some time. I'm where 640 and 70 meet. Camden, TN

What is your bike's top speed?

Gotta sell a few things before I'm allowed to buy anything else

With my 13/40 gearing my top speed is around 70-75mph. Some people say they can get there's up higher but mine wont do anything higher (it gets really uncomfortable and wobbly around 70mph). I think with more street oriented tires and some wind shielding you could ride at 70 all day long. But I didn't really buy it for that so not worried about it.

- I heard/read the lower 13 front sprocket u added even though adds more low end,gives more "wobbles" at higher speeds. If you put the 14 back and go up to 43 in the back(which is practically the same as 13/40) then it will still give you the better low end but take the wobbles away.
