Road Trip to Chicago

I'm taking a little road trip next weekend to see a game or two at Wrigley field before they ruin the place with their "upgrades". Never been there before so I'm looking for suggestions on bike friendly places to stay, park, best ways into/out of the city, roads/neighborhoods to avoid, etc. I don't need suggestions on finding a winning team to pull for so we can skip those. Thinking of riding up on Fri the 6th and heading back on Mon. Looks like about 2k miles round trip on my C650GT.

You may want to try posting this in JoMomma (for an odd weird and at times inappropriate set of responses- but with good info in between) or Inmates to get a wider viewing.

You are in luck, later in the month they have home stands against the Braves and Bucs so you can see winning teams.

Too bad no Dodgers though.

I'll be seeing a couple of Cubs/Brewers games. They are always high scoring affairs. I also posted in the midwest forum and got a few good responses. Just searching for as much bike-centric info as I can get.

Sounds like a fun trip.

Please post about your experiences on the scooter after you return. That one's on my radar.

They are going to destroy Wrigley Field? Can't they leave ANYTHING alone? I saw the Cubs here a few months ago, they have spring training in AZ. Have always been a Cubs fan. But I don't watch MLB regular season games, I gave that up after the strike back in '94/'95. Several local high schools and the UA have great baseball teams. I don't go near ASU.

Anyway, the trip should be a non event on a BMW. If a BMW scooter can't handle a 2000 mile trip, they're worse than I thought. Should be a lot more comfortable than a motorcycle, and surely BMW has an excellent roadside assistance plan.

Left the house promptly at 9:18 this morning. My first stop was a traditional fly by of the Clinch Mountain overlook on 25E in Tennessee.

Lunch stop at the world famous Hamburger Hut in Pineville, KY. This great little place gets its hamburger meat at a store a few blocks away and has it ground fresh each morning. I got there at the end of the lunch rush and had to wait while they went to the store and got more. The got swamped and sold the whole day's supply in 2hrs. It only took 10-15 extra minutes so I didn't mind. I'm now fully energized for the rest of the ride to Chicago.

I had to slab it on the way up. Starting late so I could have lunch at the Hut put me behind schedule. I just now got checked into my room. It's just a bit too far away from O'Hare to see the landings and ground handling. I know, I'm such a geek.
