Old differential as a bike stand?

Was just reading, and the author of the novel mentioned using an old Ford differential as a motorcycle stand. No details at all, but he did say that you could spin the bike around too.

Any truth to this?
Sounds very cool.

Sounds like a great idea.

I have a dead BMW diff around here someplace.

Just need to weld a pipe and a flat plate to the pinion.

Hmm, could you weld a flat plate to the input shaft of the differential. Then build the stand so the input shaft is vertical instead of horizontal as it would be in a car. When you would turn the axle shaft would it not spin the input shaft then making a rotating stand?

Edit:

Okay so I googled differential images and see why now because the side gears would not transfer the motion to the input shaft. But if he welded the spidergears and side gears together then turning the axle shaft should turn the input shaft

Do you have to be a redneck to just have a differential sitting around your yard?
