'07 Harley Davidson FLHT Tensioner

Simply posting for the record.

'07 Electra Glide Standard, 15k. I did a cam job this weekend and the tensioner looked a little more worn that I'd expect. I know it's a weak point, but 15k isn't much, and this model has the updated hydraulic tensioner.

Anyway, I was a little surprised, so I thought I'd share. I love the bike anyway. Especially now with the new cams.

EDIT: The new tensioner I bought is a different colored plastic - I wonder if it's any better. Looks like the front motor mount needs to be replaced as well; I'll go for an aftermarket upgrade on that though. Ah, Harley...

Yeah they're a disappointment. I highly recommend Zippers upgraded tensioners. Cheap when failure is considered. And they do address a known issue as you've seen first hand.

you don't see luggage racks on a hearse..........act accordingly

I have an 02 so that is the old style spring tensioner. I replace them every 20k as routine maintenance.

Mine much more cut up than that at 24k on my 2010 when I pulled it to change the cams.
I just turned them over as only one side was scored. I figure that was good for another 24k... it's been about that and I guess I need to check again :)

I'll never buy another thing from Zippers. They have hands down the WORST customer service. I have their POS thundermax on my bike and if I wasn't into it for so much damn money, I'd throw it out. When I call for support, they choose to berate me for not buying a redshift (their brand) cam and tell me that my cam is crap. May not be the best out there but Woods cams are very popular and he is respected in the industry.

So to sum it up... yup, tensioners are a wear item and zippers will never get another dime from me.
