I've seen trail 90s with hacks, and they're underbones.

110cc did they? Unless your talking helix, reflex, elites, etc... those I've seen with hacks... And a helix with the right style right looks pretty damned good imho

I've seen the centerstand holes in the same area, blown out from lack of routine fastener-check/torque there. Sure the steel is double thick right there but it's still substantially weaker than a tubed-steel attachment point on an underbone type bike.

I'm not saying it can't or hasn't (or even shouldn't) be done, Im just saying in my opinion it's pushing the envelope structurally, and a tube-type frame is probably a better method.
