Re: Re: Newbie questions

Patch:

I guess I wasn't clear: In questions 1 and 2 I was asking if the limits on Adventure Rider would still be in place? I.E. would I be limited to linking (via the IMG button) to a 160K pic on smugbug or could I link to bigger pics? Like 200-300K?

In Q2: I was sort of asking would AdvRider allow me to link to a video clip? I realize the Smugmug will let me add it there, I wanted to know if Advrider would link to it and would it work? I've never seen a video on advrider I don't think.

Q3: Thanks!

tom

Q1 & 2: No, you are not limited to the 160K size - just remember that some guys out there are still on dial-up and will get well pissed off with lots of large pics in a post

Q3: You would have to link to the video clip and viewers would have to click on it to get it to play.

Now that's dealt with, get set up with Smugmug and show us yer photos

Sorry I was not clear back in my reply. I think you could in effect link back to an 8mb image if you wanted, but as Noggin stated many users would not be happy about that and you would get a huge bandwidth bill. I never tried it (that large of a file). You can however link to a huge web image, but that too would usually lead to an image that runs off the screen and requires scrolling to see.

Are you hitting the 160kb limit often when you are posting images?

Got It

Got it Patch (& Noggin). Since I'm on a slow dialup myself whenever I'm not at the office I do understand. However, I'd like to be able to post multiple pictures in a single post and it seems that someone like SmugMug is the easiest way to make that happen. The < $30 year for the simplest subscription seems cheap.

I could see a post where you have a dual path post:

1: Copper Canyon Report - For "Connected" Users
- Bigger pics, more pics, etc..
2. Copper Canyon Report - For Dialup Users'
- Less pics, or simply more scaled-down (< 160K) pics.

Tom, there's little benefit to posting bigger pictures. The Medium size in Smugmug is perfectly adequate for the web. Lot of work on your part for little reward, IMHO.

OK... I am very very... did I say... very frustrated... I am computer ignoramus... yes... just signed up with Smug Mug, great idea... I love it... but I still cannot post a bunch of pictures in ONE POST!!!
Yes... I have read and re-read the tutorials... I do not even understand a word of it...
First question... browser... is that the line on top of the screen that shows the website? if so... my pictures are not ending with .JPG or .gif like it SAYS it should... is that right? what can i do about it???
Second... "copy the URL" after pressing the IMG... do you copy what is in that said browser on a piece of paper and then copy it in that window that pops up when you press IMG???
I have 3 pictures there in a Gallery... I think it is a Gallery even if it says I do not have one and I want to test posting here those 3 in one thread... I think I am doing OK with Smug Mug itself...
Pleaaaase... some answer in PLAIN english... would be very very welcomed...
Be well... where is the damn Valium now!!!

It is telling you that it should be loading an image but the link is not correct.

I put what you had in the img tags above. You are linking to the gallery, not a single image. You will need to right click on the image itself, check wxwax's post on dgrin.

This is what you want to have in the img tags. You are close.

It will give you this.
