I have a GS, only bigger. And I have a 30 year old Vespa which quite frankly is a lot more practical and fun. Kinda a broad brush you're paintin there cowboy, ain't it?

3. 9 out of 10 seem to have absolutely no idea how to ride. (Tail gating the car in front of them, less than a car length during a rain storm at 40-45 mph is the most recent example)
4. NO protective gear of any kind in most cases. "Hey, it's a scooter, doesn't go very fast, doesn't maneuver very well, why should I need protective gear? Besides, I only bought it to save gas and 'gear' doesn't look very cool/european".....or some such BS.

Rant over.
All that, except maybe #1, could be said of motorcycle riders here in Illinois. many do have "cool" bandanas & sandals for protection, however.

My wife and I ride our Aprilia SR50 scooters every day we can here in south florida, last weekend we took them to key west and road around the island . We are both over 45 and just love to get on them and go. I raced 410ci & 358ci sprintcars in Pa for 25 plus years, raced motocross a couple years in Pa so I no longer need to fly around the roads..we just putter around, my wife is more throttle happy than I am

We put over 5000 miles on so far this year

I get a kick out of the fullsizers looking down there noses at us, never wave. I had one guy pull up at a stop light and tell me to get a real bike...LOL I laughed

In SW Va. when the opportunity presents itself I stop and talk to those liquor cycle pilots and their overwhelming summation is that they are having a blast getting around on 2 wheels. I'd go as far as to say they are passionate about riding. Lets hope they are not as judgmental of your passion as you are of theirs.

Hmm. Sounds like some of the cycle riders in those parts may be wearing sheets instead of armor.

Why do you ride a girl's BMW, then? Why not ride the REAL man's GS1200?

I'll see your GS and Raise you a Scooter

Love my scooter, read too much trash about GSs. I like your Starbuks sticker.

Yea, probably an accountant living in mom's basement. Or a mall cop.

Really dude ??

To the poster before I talk to alot of them , I work on gas stations so I get to talk to about every one that buys gas but I make a point to try to talk to anyone on 2 wheels .I used to work in collinsville a bit , I used handle the Fas Marts in the area and a few of the shells there and in the area .

But of course Im racist because I mentioned black, Im just stating a fact , here about 70% of the scooter riders are black males , 30% of them are white with maybe 1% of them being white females . I have not met a black man that held a lic on a scooter NEVER and Ive talked to a couple hundred in the last 7 years .I have only met a couple white guys that held a lic that where on a scooter but all the rest had no lic . Most of the white girls Ive met on scooters have had lic .I felt bad for the girl I talked to on one , she was commuting about 25 miles on a 50 cc scooter , she was a vet and couldnt afford anything better . Now around colleges Im pretty sure you will get a totally different make up . Since I work at /in /around Cstores I also see what people buy and most people on scooter buy alcohol when they stop so its not hard to put 2 and 2 together .
