Another Rider does the Blue Ridge parkway, then back via Kentucky

Post ride report:

So, the goal was to ride the entire Blue Ridge Parkway (finally) and ride the Cherohala Skyway, the tail of the dragon, and come back via Kentucky...taking in a Bourbon Distillery perhaps and then across West Virginia up to the Blue Grass valley and back to my home in the northern Shenandoah Valley...in 6 days or so.

Start point on Afton Mountain VA

The often photographed Mabry Mill

Camping first night at Willville Bike Camp. Had the place to myself most of the time...

Will said a bunch of riders went to a local store and bought beer ... And they left the extras instead of hauling them out. Free beer!

Tuesday morning coffee. Father's Day present of an Aeropress! And....Crazy Fox coffee ( thanks Kevin and Rhonda! ) get yours from inmates H14 and campcook.

Puckett Cabin

Trail crossing Daniel Boone used when traveling west:

Left the parkway to do some dirt at Linville Falls Gorge. Great dirt riding...lots of steep uphill climbs!

Wild azaleas

469 miles later...the end of the parkway...looks just like the start...
Wednesday my brother (inmate RebRider) was to meet me in the evening to ride the tail of the dragon on Thursday. Killed some time in Cherokee...will add photos later..

Then on to a primitive campsite location given to me by fellow catherder HBN . Nice swim in the lake to wash off the road grime...

Here comes RebRider!

Friday a.m., time to tame the dragon .....obligatory tourist photos :

RebRider

Twohawks

Then North thru Kentucky....camped in Daniel Bonne National Forest, then on to the Wild Turkey Distillery for a tour...

Saturday, headed home via an area I have been wanting to see, east thru Kentucky across WV and up into Highland County Virginia's Blue Grass Valley

Stopped in Marlinton WV for some amazing fresh baked Pecan Pie at the Greenbrier restaurant and Inn

Then to Bluegrass...

After riding it, inmate Ecubed once told me it was the most beautiful valley he'd ever seen....know now why he said it!

Home by dark. Only mishap for the trip for myself was a zipper break on my Stich. My brother had a fuel line connector issue on his Tiger that took him out Saturday.

Whole-heartedly recommend taking the BRP sometime ... You will love it!. There's lots of dirt riding available. Linville Gorge Falls, I also did Curtis Creek road north of Mount Mitchell. There's a forest road called the "Dirt Cherohala Skyway" I want to try sometime...

Great stuff! Hope to do the ride myself soon. The Greenbriar is a nice stop. Spent a few days there two years ago. The bunker under the hotel was pretty fascinating.

Thanks for the pics and the report!

Nice write up TH. I have done the BRP in pieces, the ToD and Cherahalla Skyway. I have talked about doing the distillery tour into KY, but haven't put it together yet. Great work on making it happen and thanks for sharing.

Wonderful RR. Makes me really long to do another trip down the BRP - one of my favorite roads of all time. I'd love to hear more about the dirt Cherohala Skyway, if you can share any deets.

Great pix.

Was there just 2 weeks ago.

Was threatened with deportation on my trip, but fortunately returned to my home country under my own power.
