It's really not the same unit. As an example, the Nav V has photo navigation and the 3597 does not. There are quite a few other differences as well, as you might expect at an MSRP of $350 for the 3597 vs $799 for the V.

I did not mean to suggest that it was the same unit. The Nuvi line and Zumo line have had similar units in the past. The Zumo "660 form factor" was used on units in the Zumo, Nuvi, Aveo, and GPSMap product lines. You are obviously aware that the Zumos are tweaked and ruggedized for gasoline and weather exposure, and different internals that are more resistant to vibration.

I was pointing out that the Nuvi line has a product available with the 5 inch screen and "HD". I would hope that the new Zumo units that this Nav V should be based on are not too far behind.

I'm trying to figure out why Garmin would want to release a new zumo having just announced the zumo 390. I can see why BMW would want the Nav V since it fit's into the same BMW Nav Mount AND it fits the dash form factor of the K1600 - where as the zumo 390 does not.

This may be a BMW only model...

It is a BMW model only, at least BMW was smart enough to continue along with the same form factor as the Nav IV so that their customers would not also have to purchase new mounts to upgrade.
Garmin Zumo's don't have that level of mounting integration so it isn't nearly as big a deal if their new models utilize different mounts/cradles, Garmin accessories are also much less costly.

There must be a new zumo coming. If you look at the similar Navi model, it has a lot of the features that this new Nav V has. I don't have any inside info on this, but it would only make sense to have a Zumo branded product that is similar.

This link your cell phone over blue tooth feature gives Garmin a source of subscription revenue. No more XM for traffic and weather.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were right and Garmin releases another new Zumo, I would bet that if they do it will be in the 390 format though.

They only have to change the color of the bezel and the silk screening to brand it a zumo and it will use the same mounts as the zumo 66x models. Why do you think Garmin would spend the money just to make it "look" like the 350/390?

Mainly because Garmin appears to have abandoned the old 660/665 case format.
It would cost Garmin more money to make a new GPS look like a 390????? That makes no sense at all, it would save them money to use a case that has already been developed, any case.

Not sure where the cost savings is coming from? Garmin has already developed and is manufacturing the unit as a branded Nav-V for BMW: just like they did for the Nav IV. So branding it a Garmin zumo has almost no cost; a color change to the bezel and a silkscreened name.

Outer case format's aside, I'm actually still of the opinion that Garmin has OEM'd the Nav-V solely for BMW to BMW's specifications. I don't see any market benefits for Garmin to create a new zumo with the Nav-V hardware internals when they just released the zumo390; which was an early replacement for the failed zumo350.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Then what the hell is the point that you're trying to make?

If I were a zumo350LM customer I'd be asking Garmin where my "trade-in-super-discount" offer was for the zumo390.

Wonder why anyone would purchase a zumo350LM with less function than they could purchase a zumo390LM -- and for the same price???

Maybe Garmin Sales just hasn't caught up with Garmin Marketing and Production.
