Better late than never: PANCAKES v2.0 @ Trail Center Lodge, Saturday, Oct. 5, 13 (MN)

"Ch-ch-ch-changes"-David Bowie

Traveling north towards Grand Marais, the southern Minnesota plains
give way to the northern woods. It happens slowly, passing unnoticed
until at some point you suddenly realize you are now in The North
Country. So it is with the seasons; the days become shorter, the
air cools, the tree canopies change color imperceptibly until all at
once you notice fall has arrived. If you're like us, you begin
reflecting on the past summer's rides and those you won't be taking in
the coming months. You promise yourself to get in a couple more good
rides before the countryside is once again blanketed in ice and snow...

Ahem.

Announcing: PANCAKES* v2.0 @ Trail Center Lodge**, Saturday, October 5, 2013
*The event formerly known as NorthwoodSTOC.
**~30 miles North out of Grand Marais, MN on the Gunflint Trail

"He had discovered a great law of human action, without knowing
it - namely, that in order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is
only necessary to make the thing difficult to obtain."
-Mark Twain "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"

Twain prolly didn't have pancakes in mind when he wrote that bit o'
prose but there's no denying he was right. So, do YOU covet pancakes? Well, DO YOU???
Well sure you do, but whatcha gonna do about it? Huh?

How 'bout joining some rightly wrong-minded riders on Saturday, October 5th for PANCAKES-n-more @ Trail Center Lodge - a mere 34 miles from beautiful downtown Grand Marais, MN?

http://www.trailcenterlodge.com/
http://www.trailcenterlodge.com/lodge.html#eats

In past years most riders have arrived by 9:00-9:30. If you want breakfast... and
YOU DO WANT BREAKFAST, get there by 11:45, as Trail Center stops serving
breakfast PROMPTLY at 12:00 TCST (Trail Center Standard Time) on Saturdays.
TC staff hold the official breakfast time clock here, and it's probably different than what your GPS or watch says. Don't bother them with your citified version of reality, 'cause like moose they just don't care. Actually... no, wait... go ahead and whine to them. It'll be fun for the rest of us to watch and see what happens. Hell, why not just order up a side of waffles while you're at it? You'll come away with the knowledge that things just work differently up here. And probably a delicious lunch too.

After breakfast, ride the MN Arrowhead for more fall colors, head north to see if OPP officers will really confiscate your radar detector. (Yoo betcha!) Visit casinos even worse than those in NV. (Gasp!) Stop by Aerostich Riderwearhouse to start working on that holiday wish list, or simply head on home... taking the loooooong way back.

Note: Our work lives are all about organizing people and planning stuff, so we're not about to make this little gathering work-like by making this a real organized event. Your route, the schedule, the entertainment, the choice between pancakes and waffles... it's all up to you. (If things WERE up to us, light beer would be banned from the market and the young folks wouldn't be wearing their baggy pants down below their asses.) One thing we WILL organize is a discounted rate on lodging so you can splurge on more 'cakes. Or beer.

Lodging choices abound in GM, and most are just a short walk from the Gunflint Tavern, a fine local watering hole known to be popular with NorthwoodSTOC riders on the Friday night before breakfast. -Or so we've heard.

***Watch for a update on a group rate for lodging in the next few days.***

Finally, a word on the weather. At this time of year in the MN Arrowhead, the
weather can be... um, somewhat less than ideal for riding. But, if the sun is shining the riding is glor-i-ous. Riders should be prepared for the full spectrum of Mother Nature's offerings. (For those of you playing along at home this would be the "make the thing difficult to obtain" part.)

There might be some door prizes and awards again this year - and then again maybe not. Actually, it's kinda doubtful but we'll see what we can do. Only one way to find out, eh?

Hope to see you there. Bring yer 'lectrics!

This thread has much win, and your chosen date is very groovy.

There will be at least one door prize. I am providing it. The nature of the door prize shall not be revealed until after pancakes.

In.

I keep reading this over and over. I stayed in Grand Marais on my Superior loop this summer. Beautiful country.

Hmmmmm...

I can only assume that Prop's "gift" will be a GS850 with a spare BMW F650 motor that needs some "work".

See you kids up there.

I'm out, headed to STL that weekend, so no exurban hipsters will be in attendance.

You'll be missed. I always like to see the wandering homeless looking kid with a camera around his neck look.

Hi Ya'll
I just got a PM from Spikehead. I wanted to offer an invite to anyone coming up for the pancake run to swing by my place later that evening. I'll be airing some motorcycle movies at my place in Little Marais, MN about an hour south of Trail Center. It's probably on the way home for many of you coming up from the Cities. Feel free to throw out a tent Saturday night at my campsite if you want too. See you at Trail Center!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Movie Night and BBQ

What:
Movie night and BBQ
When
: 05 October 4-7pm
Where: My compound motorcycle workshop in Little Marais, MN. PM me for details.

Seems like a lot of new folks on the ADVRider forum lately! Great to see the NE MN riding community is growing! I'm planning another Movie Night/Meet'n Greet Saturday evening 05 October. I think having it a little earlier in the evening will give everyone time to get home before it gets too late.

I plan on airing Touratech's Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR) DVD on the 12 foot projector in my workshop or outside if weather permits. It will be DVD 1 of 3. The other 2 DVD's in the series (Colorado and Utah BDRs) will be air'ed at later screenings throughout the winter! Hope to see you there.

It's BYOB, but I'll have some road kill on the grill. For people that want to spend the night, they are welcome to camp at my humble campsite Saturday night as well.
