Eastern Sierra Fall DS 2013 Weekend

This is the third year in a row I have been able to ride out in the general area of June Lake, Mammoth and Bishop. This time was no let down, with perfect weather - cool temps, and even a bit of snow on the arrival day. We arrived Thursday from the East Bay and returned Sunday. Both times, going through Yosemite on 120.

98% Dirt Miles

Thurs - 51 Miles - June Lake to Mono Lake Lookout / Boy Scout Camp
Friday - 90 Miles - Coyote Flats Loop (Counter Clockwise)
Saturday - 129 Miles - Glass MTN loop

The riders:

Day 1: Arrival on Thursday about 2:30pm - Boulder Creek Motel, June Lake. Some Clouds, some snow.

Snowing for our afternoon ride

Time to ride - I'd rather be cold than hot.

Up in Altitude

Not gunna slam dunk anytime soon

The bikes
Xchallenge and XR650R

Nathan

We were talking - why we don't see more of this overlook on ride reports.

Trax down

Looks more like winter now

Strange bridges crossing streams

Was kind of cool to see this out there in the middle of nowhere.

Day 2: Coyote Flats:

One ICY start.

We trucked down to Big Pine to start the route. Some people like blue.

We parked at the Big Pine SPCA - donated $20 and geared up in their parking lot. Lucky for everyone, nobody was there to see it happen.

OK ready to go

Starts out fast and sandy - fun for rollin at high speeds

Starts to ascend up the mountain

Perfect weather - no wind

Uphill

Some color coming through

Cool camp spot - but CHILLY

the upper flats

Then we get the huge downhill -

Pics never do justice

The downhill is around 15 miles ish..... but the views are spectacular.

As Countdown states - the Coyote flats loop is one of the most scenic in the entire area.

If you haven't done it - you should. Kudos to those that have done it clockwise as that uphill is steep, loose, rocky, and very very long.

Day 3 to come soon. Then I'll post a few vids that came out good on the new Contour+2.....

Talking

Day 3: Glass Mountain, Benton Loop 129 Miles.

Started out of June Lake - fantastic day weather wise. Another view worth una foto.

We were looking down on the Owens valley, soon to be on the valley floor - or after hours of riding around the long way.

I like to drop my bike whilst taking photos.

Love the trees

Some of these photos may see similar, but I can't help it

Typical,

It's good to be lost -

MTNS ...big ones

Let's rip the dry lake bed route.

This is a fun place to ride fast

OK enough of that flat junk - let's try a super steep rocky uphill track.

Oh ya, ,,, you drop your bike, then I'll drop mine cause you is in the way...

Dang - I am Tired. Da Xchallenge is hard to pick up

Then we got up on top of the mountain, north of Deer Spring and on the hill climb we dug into the soft stuff right before the top.....arghhhhh.

This looks flat, but I assure you it is anything but....

In fact this was the Easy Route last year....haha.

Just look at Nathan's standing angle.

Nice dead ends around Mammoth too

Then some fun

I like this photo

So we had a blast, and the whole Eastern Sierra thing is going to always be an annual deal. The tracks change each year due to weather and etc.

and the Rocky Downhill on Coyote Flats. Fun stuff!!

Here are some vids if you want to see more. I like the Contour+2 because it takes good photos, and now has a jack for an external mic. All done in HD, so ensure you choose that.

DAY 1

DAY 2

DAY 3

And Random Honday XR650R shots per Nate:

Hey - Who sot up this Four Loco can?

Looked like fun guys, good photos and nice views!
Although Nates bike looked tired and likes to nap.
HAhA - not to worry, I dropped mine 3 times on my COBDR/UTBDR trip.

Maybe see ya at the Adventure Designs Oktoberfest lunch this Saturday.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

I can't believe that I live 5 hours away from all that fantastic riding, and I never go there.

Hey, done with that ramp yet?

Bingo! This is a cool overlook photo. Been through the general area via cage with family, never close on a moto, but figured there must be good riding in the area. Nice RR. Thanks.
