Yep, definitely a good idea. I have a 1550 and it's the perfect size for normal non-travel use. Fits a full tool set, snack, maps, camera, and rain liners.

I made a plate for extra support since I fill it and go off road. If you OR, then I'd use a support plate. It is only plastic...

If you used fender washers outside and inside with the standoffs under it, you should be fine. I used the plate to push the mounting holes to the corners of the box so it's super stable.

I plan to do some O/R riding thus I should probably use a metal plate under the Pelican case

Great choice of box,they are super tough,I just bolted mine onto original Honda rack,using ,like others have large washers,absolutely no problems on hundreds of km of Moroccan pistes.
