Low mileage, used cbr250s are about half price of a ninja300.
Looks like you have to remove some plastic to change the oil on the cbr300, which you don't have to do on the cbr250s.

I'm heading out on the highway with the 250, always do, goes 80 just fine. The ninja 300 probably does 90 just fine, with all the slow tards, I'll probably be lucky to go the speed limit.
I know I'll get better mileage on the 250 vs 300.

Currently formulating a plan to fly to Seattle to visit my brother, then buying a CBR300 and riding it back to Austin.

This plan has no holes.

Other than the nonexistence of the CBR300, the plan is flawless.

NW weather is going to suck until July at best. By then there should be an ample supply of CBR300's.

DAMMIT!

Actually yeah, this is next year's big trip. The brother isn't actually even IN Seattle yet.

I recommend riding Mercer Way while you are out there. I loved living in Seattle. Good riding and every place I lived had a great view.

Is that IN Seattle or on the way? My brother is actually riding his Bonneville from Washington DC to Seattle so his lady friend can go to grad school. I will be sure to forward this info on.

Mercer Way is on Mercer Island. Pull it up on the map or Google it and you will see why I mention it.
I lived in Wallingford and Greenlake areas. Both are still nice areas as far as I can tell. Was just riding there in September.
Also, I recommend taking the lady friends to Snoqualmie Falls. It is a great view and very romantical for the wiminz plus it isn't that far of a ride.

Off topic but set aside several non-weekend hours to circle the Olympic Peninsula. Some of the best riding I've ever done, anywhere. To go that far and not do it would be criminal.

To get back on topic, I'd like to think the little CBR will be good for this kind of trip, covering, say, 400-500 miles a day on mostly fast sweepers (as long as we're hypothesizing, let's be optimistic). I would think the power is sufficient, but the issue might be comfort, and not sure how enjoyable a 360 lb faired bike would be in a stiff cross wind.

better times coming

For the last 20 years or so the selection of 250-500cc streetbikes has been atrocious..cheesy 250cc cruiser-clones
now we have the ninja 300, cbr250/300r, forthcoming KTM 390 duke, rumored triumph 250-350 single, rumored sub -500 BMW, and hopefully something from the Yamaha, Aprilia, and Ducati camps!
yehaw!
I am thinking that the wee duke may be my ticket to paradise!

Rideapart is leaking that we're looking at sub 350lbs and plus 5 HP. I've ridden around on an 1100cc cruiser with only 50hp and had a good time. 300-350 miles a day is about perfect for me. More than that and you're missing out on the voyage. Logging miles just isn't as fun as stopping every 50 or so for pics and bullshitting.

That's disappointing. I wish they'd make a 350 and 500. Enough power for modern traffic.
