We will see. The 1290s were taken to an undisclosed location for an unknown period of time! I am thinking it is 50/50 that I will end up with a "regular" one in March. The dealer had no clue when the two from the show would be back.

Same thing happened with the 690e a few weeks back. Dealer reported it to be available,(saying they would take delivery soon) then it was whisk away, uncreated and reportedly checked to see if it was up to California ..(C.A.R.B) standards. At the time I heard this, I figure it was the dealers made up excuse to deflect away from being their fault....Makes more sense now I reckon.

Just got a call from my dealer. First contact since leaving $ for deposit several months ago.@.Eurosport Asheville. Justin said KTM will accept orders from dealers on 2/28. Preordered bikes will ship first...(he thought bikes were already here...perhaps in Ohio) both colors available...in fact, that was why he called. I needed to pick my color..(black)

He figures by 2nd week of March! I am excited now! He confirmed that they would have a demo to Ride! Still waiting for more info on power parts...what's available and at what price!

What I90 did not know is that KTM had to take the bikes back to prep them somehow so it turns out the bikes are NOT available and they do not know when they will get the bikes back from KTM. So the wait continues..........
I was actually heading to i90 today to check out their KTMs... i want / need another bike to augment the Multistrada's utility, and a KTM seems like a good choice.

I am planning a 4 day weekend Colorado trip this summer of about a thousand miles (all tarmac), and between the RC8R and the new Superduke, which bike would handle it the best, or more accurately on which bike would the rider fare better. The RC8 has some wind protection but a very aggressive seating position, the Superduke has no wind protection but an upright seating position.

I would guess that the Superduke would be better for the trip. I am pretty tall and the SD felt pretty comfy sitting on it.

You are probably right. Either bike would be a blast in the twisties on our route, but it would probably be a little more comfortable on the SD, and I guess one could put on the KTM soft panniers as well (although I have strapped a tail bag on the RC8 several times as well).

On the SD the trip will be measured in smiles. On the RC it will be measured in how many tubes of BenGay you need for your back and wrists...

To be honest, either might be best !

It really depends on the rider - the RC8R has one of the most adjustable riding positions of any sport bike. That fact, in combination with the wind protection, would make it suitable for the type of trip you are describing.

I did a 9,000 mile cross-country trip on a '84 GPZ550 that I had raced 2 years earlier, and had no issues at all.

Of course, I was younger then, but......

Nice, but I am wondering what orange is this? because from what I read the colour code for the 1290 is not available yet (it is not the RAL2009 orange they're currently using)
I also saw a black version met similar painted wheels in black-orange

But with wine I'll stick with orange only, like that better.
