i just checked Fastenal's listing for Zinc-coated in 10.9 and it tops out at 40mm (what i'm seeing from other suppliers), where as 12.9 are running up to 180mm in length options. is 10.9 only strong enough up to 40mm and then you need 12.9 after that???

I don't see a website for these folks, but they have always been helpful.
King Bolt Co, 4680 N Grand Ave, Covina, CA. Tel: 626-339-8400
Good luck.

Go to UK eBay and search m8 80 socket cap zinc 12.9.

There are 6 or 7 stockists in the UK.

If you have trouble getting them to ship to you, PM me and I will help.

I think I can get those bolts with no trouble from my local hardware store,
10.9 or 12.9.
M8x80 is not that special overhere.
Would you like me to give them a call and ship them to you?

I need two 75mm long M6 fasteners & they are in stock at Kwik-Set and no UPS fees like Fastenal or minimum orders like many on web. It's easy to find the odd stuff online-finding it with no minimum order is another issue.

If you decide reducing to 10.9 grade (83% the strength), you could find more options looking for JIS 10T bolts:

This is for handguards?

You probably don't need to focus so much on grade 12.9.

These would be fine:

http://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Det...x?product=6446

$1.31 each.

To be sure you'd need to be more specific about your application, but those are probably fine.

What did you do to find it?
It seems that one needs to have a Mil-Spec number to find a bolt at there.

Rant: Fastenal is my last place to shop for fasteners based on their frequently wanting to charge UPS when in fact the order comes to them, not me & I then have to go fetch the stuff way down the road 50k rt! Me paying for stuff that they get with other parts in their order to their store is not cool or economical for me! I like Albany County Fasteners for the items they stock online (not what OP wanted) and free or low cost shipping. Lots of SS fasteners of all kinds at best prices. I have an order with a few T-25 security screws for MC luggage coming from them now & they were cheaper than Chinese on ebay!

I learned the Fastenal UPS shipping charge dealio early. They charged me, or tried to, $24 to ship a $5 tube of loctite. And I had to go pick it up. I finally told the manager it was ridiculous and I could order that shit from Amazon or McMaster and have it delivered the next day for $5. He didn't disagree and I also told him that it wasn't coming from UPS it was coming from their warehouse on their truck. He also agreed. I forget exactly what I paid but it was a nominal amount.

I have not darkened their doorway since. Everything other than chemicals I get from McMaster. Their website couldn't be easier, their shipping is overnight with UPS ground and very reasonable. There are some things they are really high on prices like cutting tools. For the most part, it's the best place for me because they have everything and it's in my hands next day if I order before 6pm.
