for now I am looking at maybe adding a sport touring bike such as a VFR or even FRJ (both would be used) and next year when my Jeep is paid off making payments on a 1200GS if it is still as high up on my list as it is now. Starting to check Cycletrader and Craigslist to see what is out there.

I replaced it with a klx250 and couldn't be happier. I did, later on, trade my sportbike for a V-Strom. So I think I have the best of both worlds, klx for dirt duties and strom for touring. Toured once on the klx and it went well, so the option is still open.

I replaced my KLR with a Versys...but luckily I didn't sell the KLR. After 2 years, the Versys hit the chopping block...but the KLR is still here.

Thanks for any thoughts.
Putting mine up for sale tomorrow! Picking up wr250r tomorrow also, brand new. First new bike in 25 yrs! Looking for lighter weight for this older guy. I'm afraid I'll never be able to pick up the KLR in the places I've taken it. It has been a great work horse! Pat

The KLR is a gentle, unassuming gateway bike… if the addiction takes hold you soon need a something with more kick.

The HONDA XR650R was a natural progression for me. It is significantly better in every performance aspect.

I miss the mild mannered “caddy” like feel of the KLR as a commuter and a travel bike.
My all green Y2K KLR reminds me of the purposeful design of an A10 Warthog, my kind of ART.

I couldn't find a single bike to replace everything I did with my KLR.

So I had to get two...

KTM 990 Adventure

and a DRZ 400

Too funny. I have a 2009 klr and I have been looking at a dr-z400 or a TW200.
Something lighter. Certainly something lighter. Klr is too fat and heavy for my dirt tastes

2009 KLX250S.

Yeah, I truck it to the ride most of the time but it's all smiles once I get there.

I ditched my fully farkled '12 klr 650 for an '06 KTM 950 ADV and a '13 KTM 350 EXC. The klr got me down the road, but was pretty boring to ride at the end of the day. If im going to have a 500 lb bike, id like to have 3 times the hp of the klr sometimes its really fun to light the back tire up while cruising down a dirt road at 45mph.

For the tight stuff, I had to get something light and nimble. It all depends on what you really plan on doing. In my situation, 1 bike just couldnt take on the task.
