Mobec duo-drive would suit our needs better reinventing the wheel may not be necessary a mechanical interface in a hydraulic world is redundant.DB

I can't get to work, I'm too busy Googling!!

Wasn't Mobec a rear drive for the GS taken off the housing? Still only 2WD ....time to hit google again

You mean that CJ's stuff is cheap ? I doubt that.There was some guys on the G spot building telescoping front end kits for GS but they had to get 8K$ for them Then you had a heavy wide bike with telescoping forks that wasn't as handy as a KTM adv What's the point ? That's a nice bit of engineering the kid did but how many of 100 KTM adv owners would need it or want it other than mines bigger than yours.Are we in BossHoss land yet ? Where it's completely about ego ?
The Hoss guru in the twin cities has a giant ego and stagged a bunch of informal drag races in SD around Sturgis apparently he was pissed that the big Jap rockets dispatched Hoss's easily.
If you ride a sidecar rig where multi wheel drive would be helpful, you probably already got a winch and athletic monkey. Or your on a fools errand.DB

No I meant the Mobec hydraulic stuff must be expensive.

I've watched videos of CJ's 2WD bike and it looks really good. Christini was the basis for the idea but they are for smaller bikes.

I'll bet there's a market for the 2WD bikes as more people get into ADVing with bigger bikes. Same 'who needs another drive wheel' could be said .. and I've heard it here ... of driven sidecar wheels.

It would have been both fun and very handy on my Super Enduro, it's not like a 350cc enduro off road

After looking at Christini's web site, there might be places for them.It's tough being a curmudgeon and I don't have time for the research, trying to keep Dan working on the stuff he does have

CJ Made the current issue of Motorcyclist! Nice 1/2 page pic and article. I've seen him several times here in Northern IL/Southern WI, and at Dust to Dawson two years ago. He has over 150K on the bike. And from the looks of it, he definitely uses the AWD :-)

It's all about tyre wear!!
All this time folks have tried to drive their sidecar wheel which from my experience turns a stuck sidecar into a stuck sidecar going sideways!
OK it's better to have 2wd than only one when you're up to your arse in gloop, but to have a wheel pulling you out is a good idea.
The major issue with sidecars is the drive tyre wear...unless you go to a car tyre, but even then you still wear 'em out quicker than the rest.
If we look at history, and in particular rallying, the main objective of 4wd was to get cars to get through a stage on the rubber available.
Now think of a 950 Adventure, try getting it past 1000klms on one rear tyre when on the gas in the wild....not gonna happen. So why not use the 2wd system to spread the tyre wear. Makes sense to me.

If you google the Yamaha 2wd they ran them on the Dakar with the 450 but complained that they were too heavy...by 2.5kgs...1lb FFS. In the dunes they were the best.
Same channle diff station is a link to the R1 they moded and ran on a bumpy, wet track in Scandanavia where it was just 6secs a lap quicker...IN THE WET!!
They coulda used the system at Philip is for the GP a couple of weeks back to get a whole race without changing bikes
I think the future is close.
