R1100rt elect. Gremlins, help please!

My 97 R1100RT started doing something strange today. When I touch the brake pedal or the hand brake. The battery light comes on in the instrument cluster. Plus the tach. goes to zero! Release the brake. The light goes out and the tach bounces back to engine speed indicated. Everything else electrically seems to work as it should.

Any ideas please?
Thanks Bill

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

I vaguely remember this is a product of a bad battery causing a low voltage condition. Try a fresh battery or a jumper to a good battery and see if that cures it.

Common issue. There is a cluster of ground wires near the RID that gets corroded. It causes all kinds of odd things just like this.

Wow, thanks to all of the responses. The batt. is a WESTCO AGM batt. It is always on the BMW OEM battery maintainer when the bike is not being ridden. I have not done any work to the bike recently. The last time I rode the bike was Labor Day, and that was about a 400 mile ride. The bike has not been wet, rained on, or washed for a long time. I.E. possible corrosion. As far as a loose connection at the battery? The bike starts and runs fine and keeps up with the head light and the running lights.

I don't mind working on the bike, but I hate wrestling with the damn Tupper Ware.

Same happened to my 01 RT

I found that fuse number 1 was blown. I replaced it and bingo! BTW I noticed that the blown fuse on my bike was a 15A (Blue fuse) whereas I note that it's a 4A in a diagram I found.

I'm gonna' try and pull that nice soft Lazy Boy Corbin seat off tomorrow and take a looky see! I did notice on Thursday I had to take the bike to Phx. and the turn signals both left and right would blink correctly then they would start blinking reap rapidly!

Thanks Bill

You found it. Same thing happened to me and it was fuse 1. Replace the fuse and fixed. My fuse one blew because I shorted the Givi contacts accidentally.
