BirdsEye vs G/Earth

Being new to Basecamp and have not yet loaded Birds Eye, I was wondering what is the advantage if any to Birdseye over GE.

The only advantage is that you can take multi-layered geolocated imagery along with you on your GPS. The resolution varies and is not predictable - but for $30/yr and unlimited downloads, it's been of some value to me anyway.

BirdsEye Pros:

It downloads directly and fairly easily to the GPS.
Once you have the images, you have them, i.e. they don't expire or go away.

The maximum resolution is not very good. It will show roads and some trails where there's not a lot of ground cover but where therre's gorund cover it's not much help. Maps are more useful.

Maximum resolution downloads have to be geographically small sections and take a very long time to download. When going to an area, it's taken me half an hour to get all the section I want to download going and then it's an overnight process to get them all.

Not free.

Google earth pros:

Higher resolution. Much higher in general and outstanding in places.

It is very time consuming to port images over the unit (they have to be aligned in Google earth first) and the size of the images is limited by your monitor resolution which will make them waaaaay smaller than the Birds Eye.

Summary: it's not that expensive to play with it. I've found the imagery to be more novelty than useful and will almost certainly not re-up the subscription. They just don't have the resolution to be that useful for me.
