Another video test, this one at 960p, 60fps.

No wonder the audio has so much wind noise in it if this tiny little spec of foam is the wind block...

I'll be interested to see how the accessory wind block is any different from this.

Took the Virb out for the first time.
Had a great ride.

Few comments on what I have seen so far.
First get a good mount I had the little ram ball the one with the 1/4 20 stud it broke right off the bat.
Like others have mentioned this white rubberized armor is going to get very dirty over time.

My biggest problem is I need to figure out how and where to mount this thing.

My other big problem is Virb Edit just will not work for me ...using Windows 7 with lots or ram and good computing power.
Just will not render the video so I have to use Photoshop CS6.

Which means no cool dashboards or location graphics.
I'll have to spend some time trying to figure this out.

Very gloomy day so video quality not the best...but here you go.

Photos first one untouched on touched maybe too much.

Part of today's ride

I can't see your video on this device, so I can't really comment, but the Windows version of VIRB Edit does not seem to be as reliable as the Mac version that I use.

Re: where to place the camera, I don't care how goofy it looks - the top of my helmet gives me great videos.

The video seems fairly solid, though Smugmug video streaming seems slow. Ah, Traffic, haven't heard that band in a while.

You don't have "Advanced/Lens Correction" on, do you? All my videos are taken with that setting and "Video/Field of View/Ultra Zoom".

That corrected picture looks like a Yamaha ad.

No that was on Ultra Wide.
I house all photos at SmugMug just started sending videos there.
I don't think SmugMug is equipped for the videos??

I am sending this one to You Tube and try it from there see if that makes a difference.

Here's how I mounted the Virb after the other mount broke.
I used a ram mount I just clamped it to the hand guards.
Work OK but the top swivel just above the top ball is a little slippy.

Couple of things I forgot to mention is how nice it is having the Montana with the Virb.
Battery went dead switched it out for the one in the Montana and good to go.
And the dead one gets a fresh charge in the Montana.

One more thing I used the remote control in the Montana worked great.
But when I turned off the Montana remote I lost all control with the Virb.
It locked up all buttons did nothing...had to remove battery then I was ready again.

Closer look

And you are probably right on mounting it on my helmet.
I am trying to see it I can find another place.

Maybe we need a "Show Me Your Video Setup" thread ...I don't think I have seen one?
I have a lot to learn on this video stuff...........

Thanks
Fred

Much better - it streams nicely now.

Did you know you can check that the camera's level when you mount it on the bike? When you've got the camera on and you can see an image in the display, press the Up or Down buttons and it'll bring up the "Level" screen. Don't push the "Enter" button unless you really do plan to reset the level itself. AMHIK.

Agreed - this is awesome.

I've had a couple of lockups over the weekend. If it keeps happening for you, try a "Factory Reset" as described earlier in this thread and elsewhere.

Maybe we need a "Show Me Your Video Setup" thread ...I don't think I have seen one?

Good idea.

I have a lot to learn on this video stuff...........

Don't we all?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Thanks Emmbeedee,
Can anyone tell me if the "dashboard" on the Elite is unique to the Elite, or does the GoPro 3+ have a dashboard also.

Thanks,
LnC

Depends on which dashboards you're talking about.

Camera dashboards - GoPro does not have them.

Video dashboards, those elements you see in the video corners are put there by VIRB Edit, and VE can be used with GoPro video. You can add those dashboards to any version of GP camera video.

Or video from any other compliant video for which you have a gps track, for that matter.

Answering my own question: the Wind Block you can buy from Garmin is exactly the same - it's a replacement in case you damage the original.

I asked GPSCity.

I'm new to this thread and admit I have not read every post. But I see more stutter in the posted vids than I would expect. Just want to make sure that you guys (Emmbeedee and others) are using Class 10 cards with your VIRB? Is the stutter only showing up when the vid gets posted online, or are you seeing the stutter on your home computers when viewing the video directly from your hard drive?

For everything except the most recent, last weekend, I was using a ADATA Class 10 32 gig chip, then I found a deal on a Sandisk 32 gig Ultra UHS-1 card. The VIRB supposedly can use the UHS-1 card.

I don't think there's much stutter in the originals, but I could be wrong. Some of what I uploaded was actually done at 730p/30fps so it's not really smooth. The export process from VIRB Edit loses a bit of quality, as does the upload and streaming from Vimeo or Youtube.

The stutter is from the image stabilization not recognizing the movement of closer in objects off to the side of the road/trail as natural progression through the scene. It erroneously assumes that's that the camera is shaking.
