Are they listed in the list of loaded maps on the map set up page?

How did you load the maps? Using Mapsource or Mapinstall, or with the card in a card reader?

loaded using map install direct to sd card reader on mac. two maps made into one by map install. the img file is on the card, but no map detail i viewable on the unit. also, no map info shows up in the map listing on the unit.

i'm thinking bad card...

Sounds as though it should have worked.
Try it again with the card in the 60?
I use a PC. Anytime I've looked at a card or USB stick that has been in a Mac in a read-only situation I've found folders/files that weren't there before. One was "trashes" don't recall what others. I seem to recall that some GPSs get confused by folders/files that aren't usually there in the PC domain.

are you loading into the "Garmn" directory? and not just onto the card main directory?

thanks for the replies. got on the phone with garmin and they figured the problem out 1st thing. the sd card needed to be reformatted.

apparently, garmin products are very susceptible to becoming corrupt if they are not ejected in a mac environment prior to removal. and while the file on the card will show up in finder, the gps device cannot read it.

i'm fairly shitty about not ejecting cards and such before yanking them so i guess i brought this problem on myself.

p.s. i was letting mapinstall do the work not doing it manually.
