Painting old Plastics?

Has anyone done this and have it come out like new plastics? I've seen the rhino liner stuff but I want paint not that. Is a simple sand, clean, primer, paint and clear enough to make it come out well? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty much like that, I've found. I try to rough up the plastic and put multiple layers of primer on.

Here is a decent write up on painting plastic moto parts on the Aprilia Forum. The write up is a little more in depth then just the basic sand, prime & paint. I found it to be pretty helpful.
