Get a new ignition, Powerdynamo have them as electronic ignition with an generator in their inventory for the Scorpa when I looked up right and if not they will make one for you. They can custom build nearly every ignition you want.

A small German company so you will get very good craftsmanship and something that is really working and reliable.

I had the black and yellow Scorpa with the reed valve Rotax 250 engine. The bike was a bit heavy but I really liked it. A solid ride.

I didn't have stator problems. I recall retarding the timing for mud riding, so I was in there, several times, that means I did my usual things for preventing problems. If a stator is delicate, corrosion is likely a big factor.

If I can get to a magneto cavity and stator/flywheel early enough, I remove the flywheel, clean everything, and then use clear spray lacquer to seal everything up to block off corrosion. Additionally, or separately, I
spray down the whole mess with solvent-like semi-lubricants like WD-40 or other spray oil before slapping the cover on. If water does get in there the solvents greatly reduce the potential for corrosion.

I've had good luck with their products. If there is a problem, they take care of it.

If the stators are a known problem I'd be inclined to get on fleebay or whatever and collect a few "failed" stators for the price of shipping, then do the repair yourself on the cheap to the spares. Meanwhile keep riding and assume the best.

I've owned several CanAm's - trials and enduro's that used the Rotax engine and found them pretty much bulletproof. Never encountered a stator failure. Maybe some of these people could help, despite not being Scorpa;

I'd hang on to the bike till it dropped!

Cheers Garry

gmac,

That is an excellent idea. However, I've been looking at ebay for years without any luck. The scarcity of the Scorpas in North America probably has a lot to do with that. I guess I'll try to pay more attention and set up some bots to do the work for me.

I've emailed Powerdynamo and will hope for something positive from them.

Thanks for the links guys.

The stator for the Scorpa from Powerdynamo is listed at $444usd.

Ouch.

That will probably have to be a resort AFTER the original has failed.

Maybe it's time to watch some more of those stator rewinding videos.....
