I was asked to bid to do some work for the Vancouver Olympics and after 2 weeks I told them no thanks and withdrew my bid. I figured that it was going to be more trouble than they were worth. Already I had had a series of phone calls from a "guy in the states" who worked directly for "a guy in Europe" who was a big deal (not to me btw). It became clear that I would be worse off post Olympics. I never regretted my decision for a minute.

The IOC took over my Club in Vancouver for the Olympics. Everything was very hush hush, members were not allowed access for a month around the Olympics. To be clear the members, myself included, voted in favour of this because of how the physical structure of the Club would benefit. It did.

The Club got major significant renovations and security upgrades , etc. Rumour has it that the IOC flew in it's own wine, chefs, etc.

Vancouver and BC will be paying for Olympics for years. Having been through Expo 86, APEC, the Olympics and two Stanley Cup Riots I would rank in my order of preference as a resident and taxpayer.

1. World's Fair

2. APEC

3. Olympics

4. Stanley Cup Finals

Interestingly enough my commute to the office improved during the Olympics and was always under 15 minutes. Now with the bicycle lanes and resulting street closures 4 years later it is 25-30 minutes.

I saw a few minutes of it but then all the reports that NBC cut out a ton

It's bad enough not offering it live but when they finally do air it they cut out the IOC's bit about human rights (which was a slap in the face to Putin) and then the Soviet era history? Their cuts don't even make sense, and no we don't need to hear your stupid talking heads.

I'm not going to watch it today instead I've got the B's on now and then later on HNIC

I wondered where the history thing went - thanks for the heads up. NBC
is a disaster.

What major network isn't? They all suck. So, I take what I get, no use whining about it. They are all in the barrel, and not aging well.

They are outside of Bellevue (20m south of Sunny (Sun) Valley).

Her Pa pretty much sold the family farm to fund the snowboard competitions and now works for others. From the local interview - he is proud and seems good with it. To me, this is the American Olympic Dream.

Say what you want - the winter games turn Mrs. Snow & me into USA chanting patriots. The athletes seem more real - mountain kids doing their thing. (You don't make bank in biathlon, bobsled or curling).

Also - like the idea of the worlds best party when the athletes are finished with their events. They sacrificed training now get to hook up with a bunch of like hardbodies. Got a USA sweater and some great memories for sure.

Fuck the coverage and commercialism. We like the effort and the stories.
