While I charged the battery, I figured why not check the ignition components per the service manual and see how they're doing anyway since the bike had not been able to start yet.

I had to pull the tank to get to the coil and when I did I noticed that the tube from the carb to the airbox was not sealed at the carb. It was noticeably out of position. I started to loosen the clamp so I could reattach it and noticed something else...the carb had actually moved so much over time that it had also broken the seal between the carb and engine! There was about a quarter inch gap half way around the boot! I can't freaking believe it had been running like that for as long as it had!

I'm excited to see how she runs now that the carb is TIGHTLY sealed at both ends! Throttle response in the driveway sounds great! I can't take it for a test drive yet, because I have it slightly apart still while I wait for a chance to get longer bolts for installing my subframe supports. Hopefully it will be dry enough one day after work this week that I can take it out and crack the throttle!

That's the problem with us troubleshooting in the parking lot, we don't know what the situation is under the tank.

Possible near term ride dates

As promised, I went through my calendar and here are a few potential weekends that I can do a day, an overnight or possibly two nights...

This weekend if weather permits. Likely half day rides as my wife is taking her ride courses this weekend! :)

May 17th/18th. Definitely full days. Possibly overnight.

May 31st/June 1st. Definitely a full day. Possibly overnight. Verifying Barlow Rd ride dates...might be up there with the group.

July 18-20th. Definitely full days. Possibly overnight 1 or two nights (I have that Friday off).

If folks are interested in getting a ride together for one or more of these, please let me know as early as possible. I don't know why, but this year has been my busiest so far and my weekends seem to keep getting booked up. Good problem to have I guess. :)

Have a great week all!

The weekend of 6/21 is our anniversary so that is out for me. Trying to do the Wallowas that weekend but doubt that will happen.

This weekend I'm definitely getting out. Probably going to do that Beaver Slide road again and hike some of that rail line. True dual sporting. I can't be out overnight though. Wife is traveling and I've got 3 dogs...

Nice! I'd love to check out that road! I'm off Friday if you're available. Saturday works too, and I'm not positive about Sunday. I can't do overnight this weekend either though. Let me know what works for you.

may have to play it by ear. Forecast is looking pretty wet this week and weekend. That's not a road you want to go down when it's wet. You'd go down it much faster than you'd like.

Sounds good. I noticed that too. I'm willing to get out if it's just drizzling a bit or if we get a little wet while we're out, but I don't want to have to mount pontoons to get home.

Here's another good example of why soft luggage is nice.
