Even the modern Boxster was affected with these standards. The noses are slowly getting less sharp. There are exceptions. One is making the surface weaker to absorb the impact. Some modern supercars have airbags in the hood that upon impact, raise the hood a few inches and create a crumple zone.

Europe has the strictest standards so far.

I don't think they are competitors. I like the new Vette, but for about the same money I could buy a 662 hp Shelby

I think they did a nice job retaining the 'look', while making it a much better car.

I'd give them

As a lifetime Ford fan, I was really looking forward to the new Mustang esp when they said it would be less retro on a new platform with a slightly smaller size and big weight reduction. Instead, it has the same wheelbase and is only 0.2" shorter overall. Autoweek is guessing at <200 lbs less with the new aluminum front fenders- which isn't too bad since they added IRS.

I just don't get why go through all the trouble and expense of an all new platform and make it look like the previous generation with slight sheetmetal update and a Taurus grill.

The new Vette may have Camaro tailights, but at least it looks much better than the previous model.

For around $15,000 you can buy a supercharged 500hp Mercedes coupe or sedan with under 100,000 miles.

My point was IMHO I think a lot of cars have been softened up in the styling dept. They are sleeker, rounder, curvier and certainly softer looking..

I prefer more pronounced body lines, stronger styling that sets apart not blends in.

But that being said I am not an old car guy, nor do I own or plan to own any current muscle cars. And like many folks out there the longer I look at things the more they grow on me..

My comparison to the wrx was in reference to the fact that a lot of manufacturers are changing their body styles to keep up with current market trends.

FWIW I would take the new Mustang over that horrible looking wrx in a minute...but it is my wifes car so we all know how that goes, happy wife...happy life. I'll go ride my bike

He's from the Bay Area of California, the LOVE making stuff illegal there! Their definition of "liberal" is a little weird there.

As for the new Mustang, I'm not loving it. I'd rather get a 2005-2014 body.

More, I've been digging finding the thought of finding a '95 SVT in decent shape and begging for modern suspension parts.

Now this...

... That would be a different story. If they were going to change it up, that would have been the way to go. The split the difference in the wrong way, I think.

Beautiful car - and this coming from a guy that prefers Japanese and European cars. But this gives the 4 series BMW a real run for it's money in the looks department.

I could see owning this car.

I think you have it backwards. Pedestrians stand a better chance at survival should they end up on the hood than under the car. Think about it for a second.

When talking used there are lots more options. What's the point?
