Amazon Rocks!

I use it every day. Living in the country a bit and being surrounded by small towns that have relatively poor shopping selections, Amazon is really handy.

Prime works well- we do it for quick delivery, but adding video and other perks is great. Don't forget about returns when you factor in the cost of a prime membership. They will accept any return if it's sold by Amazon or is a Prime eligible transaction. If you buy from another seller and pay for shipping, you are on your own if you have to return it.

I buy almost everything mail order, most from Amazon- car parts, food items, books, clothes, you name it. Their UI sucks unless you know exactly what you want.

It's funny though, ordered a $250 trampoline for Christmas that should be in 2 boxes. They sent 2 of the #2 box. filled out the return form, they sent a new trampoline to be delivered tomorrow, issued a new label and called UPS for hte old one. Return shipping was $90.

So they are in it $90 shipped to me, $90 shipped back to them, and $90 shipped to me. $270 for a $250 trampoline.

As far as instant goes- most is similar to netflix, but I think it's easier to find stuff on Amazon- granted I search for an actor, title, or subject. If you are just browsing, good luck with that.....

I use the Prime streaming a LOT. Lots of good BBC content on there, especially if you like mysteries (Poirot, Prime Suspect, etc).

Another big benny, if you read a lot, is the free Kindle book every month. That alone pays for the membership. The only drawback is that the free book is only good on a Kindle device (can't be read on iPad, etc.)

Actual goods? Don't order much at all, maybe 6 times a year.

I don't.

I have Chromecast and it doesn't work with Amazon vids at all - when I do get it to cast the tab and I actually have vid (rarely do), I don't get audio.

My new smart TV turns out to have a Amazon link. My only concern is that I can't tell if a movie is free or not (I have Prime.)

If it works anything like ours, you have to go to your computer and get a code from Amazon to play a movie that you have to pay for. For Prime (free) movies, look for the Prime banner across the top left corner of the movie's icon.

I've found the TV's interface for searching movies to be clumsy at best. If I want to watch something I'll go to my computer or iPad and surf Amazon's site, adding what I want to my Watchlist. When I go to the TV, I select Amazon and the my Watchlist.

Thanks. I went through the sign-up process. I guess I'll just click on one and see.

An email I got today from Amazon, who I have to say has been providing good support from India...

"A recent update to the Flash Player plug-in in Chrome removed support for Digital Rights Management (DRM) in Linux, which is required to stream Amazon Instant Video titles. To resolve this issue, try using a different browser. "

Maybe this why i can't get the Amazon addon to work on the media player too.

I watched the first season of Vikings on Amazon Prime the last few days. It was awesome.

You gotta love the Customer Service at Amazon.. Just got an email saying "we noticed you experienced poor video playback while watching your recent video rental on Amazon. We're sorry for this and have credited your account the $4.99 purchase price for this movie....."

Yes, the movie hung up once, but I figured it was my marginal Roku and router.....

Of course, if they noticed that...
