Buying a used bike out of state, titling in WA

I have been thinking of buying a used dual sport and keeping it at my folks place in Georgia. It looks like a ferner kaint get a title there without being a resident.
I would rather not buy a bike here and ship it.

So if I buy a used bike in Georgia and try to title in WA, will I need to have the bike inspected here?

You should buy it in WA, title and register it, and ride it to GA. Bada bing bada boom

Use your folks place as your Georgia residence...

I have a friend that still "lives" with his mother for vehicle registration puposes.

Out of state titles require a WSP inspection of the bike for verification. Cost you $65 and a trip to the inspection station.

Unless you know one personally and can get by with a pic of the VIN...

Hmmm, I bought a Cali plated 50-state legal bike about this time last year...in and out of the DOL in just a few minutes with plate, tabs, paper yada yada...no inspection whatsoever.

Just a thought, but could you get a copy of the form, send it to your folks in GA, and have a local cop do the inspection? All they want to verify is if the numbers match the title, right?

Where's you get this info? I've never had to get any bike inspected to get a title. I bought an Oregon bike last month and just took the bike's Oregon title into the local licensing office, paid the tax and fee, walked out with new plates and my new WA title arrived in the mail a couple of weeks later. Bike stayed in my garage. No inspection. I bought an Arizona bike three years ago--same procedure--no inspection. I bought a bike from Illinois 10 years ago--getting plates and title was exactly the same as last month.

If you're gonna buy the bike in Georgia and keep it at your folk's place there, why not just put it in their name? If ya end up bringing it out here, then have them "gift" it to you and you might not hafta pay sales tax here.

In the last couple of years, inspections have not been done at/by WSP, if the paperwork is in order. I've bought a few bikes out of state, and each time the inspection was "paid for" as part of the transfer process, but all done with the computer. WSP never layed eyes on it. almost seems as If it's a un-neccessary fee, but who wants to complain at the time.

Never. Bill of sale, title and your checkbook, and done deal.
Ok, I take that back. For some reason I had to take a 1970 Mini Trail 70 to WSP for inspection. The highway patrolman loved it lol.
It was because vessel registration told me it was never intended to be licensed for the street. But is was.
Thats been the only time.

I could see an off road bike thats been plated for the street, but shows up as off road only at any particular dmv, in whatever state might require an inspection - and the right to be denied.
