2007 Tiger 1050 issues and faults?

I'm always looking and pondering being bike less for the last few months(OK I could have a shop full and still look). But I found one with full luggage and some nice add one with 12k for $6000.

What issues do these suffer?

I've heard stock suspension sucks(seems said about most bikes) and sub par head lights.

What else? Considering wee storms but this is just more appealing and isn't that what a lot of this hobby is about?

Some of the 07's used a little oil. Theories abound. Mine used a quart every 3-4000 miles.

35 k on mine no troubles at all. get a hid head light. mine doesn't burn oil.

New 2007 owner here

Enjoying her so far.

Pros: Upgraded finish from my 2002 955i/lighter/more power

Cons: Stock shifter sucks/soft suspension/headlights poor

Mine is going in for full suspension treatment and HIDs in a few weeks. $1100 later-should be one of the most competent bikes on the road.

They are sweet bikes, but need setting up-like any other bikes.

Can't go wrong!

I've had mine since September. I've put 4k miles on it since then (bike nearing 54K total miles).

Mine uses/leaks a very little bit of oil. My suspension was sorted by the previous owner and the Touratech lights round it off.

Fantastic bike. Oh and you'll never get sick of listening to it.

No personal experience. However a friend put over 70k on his 1050 and the only issue was repeated failure of the alternator. In his particular case he was on his third when he traded it for a Tiger 800 this past summer. I think he'd owned the 1050 for just under 3 years. He says he misses the extra power of the 1050 but is still satisfied with his current choice. He's already got over 15k on the 800!

I love the bike! Two summers an about 20000km on mine. It now has 50000km and not one issue. No oil leaks or any other problems. If I wasn't doing as much off road this is the best bike I have ridden. Got a good deal on a 800xc or this bike would probably be the last bike I own. Stock seat is almost all day comfortable, decent wind protection with the PALMER bracket, decent luggage with space for everything for a week or longer.
Goes like hell and never tire of the exhaust note( TOR pipe). Managed to ride it thru some off road last summer that saw a couple of others on the ground but just kept ticking. Would recommend this bike to anyone.

I had an 09 I bought new and put 35000 on before I traded it for my 800 XC. You hot the nail on the head...front forks wore out and headlights sucked. The bike overall was fantastic except I rode it too fast. My buddy had his forks and rear suspension done and he LOVES his. If you get those done you will have an amazing bike. I just needed something I didn't want to take on a curve on while on fire. I would have lost my license or life so I decided that bike is for a more courageous, skilled or self controlled rider.

I had one before I got my Tiger Explorer.

Suspension = shite! I got mine rebuilt front and rear for 470 and it transformed the bike, the suspension guy showed me the internals of the oe shock and the oil was just froth, no damping from the oil and that was not riding it for 5 days! Don`t spend loads on Ohlins etc just get a specialist to sort it for you and save cash.

Throttle response off fully closed = also shite! That main reason I got rid of mine. Coming up hairpins in the Alps and coming off a closed throttle every single time was a jerk, not a smooth opening at all. I tried any amount of remaps and tweaking but that spoiled the bike for me.

The rest of the bike was great, the cheap looking chrome bars let it down imo but they`re easily changed. I`d like a go on the new Tiger 1050 sport to see if the throttle has been sorted

I had an 07, and I have no complaints for what it was. It used no oil, sounded sexy through the TOR pipe, comfortable all day, good fuel economy, and torque like a freight train. Seems like people pan the suspension on every bike that comes out; mine seemed fine to me.

The only complaints I had were the poor headlights (fixed with an HID kit) and the stock seat went south after a while, comfort-wise.

I traded mine for a T800 because the 1050 was sketchy off-pavement, and most of my rides end up on gravel or dirt somewhere. I never had problems with oil consumption, never had any other mechanical failures.

The headlights suck so bad, they should be the target of a class-action suit. My 50 year old 6V Triumph had better lights. The good news is, for $400, you can adapt the lights from the new Tiger Sport and change the stupid projector beams to a conventional reflector, kinda looks like a V-strom light. YAYYYY! The rest of the bike ROCKS.... I'll hold onto mine for a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGGG time!

I have to agree with you on that one.

My 955 is sorted however. The 1050 I rode had a lousy suspension and clunky transmission. If it weren't for those two things I likely would've bought it.
